I had some uncomfortably tight elastics that had me sell a couple of chiffon blouses and skirts, now I wish I had tried this advice first :D thank you so much for sharing this! Hi lovely video, thanks for the tutorial, I have a skirt with an elastic wastband that goes all round the skirt and i am trying to expand the elastic waistband, how do i use the technique with this type of skirt?

You can use the same technique when expanding a full elastic waist. I recommend that when you sew the elastic down on either side of where you wish to expand it, do it in the front or two smaller sections on the sides. The amount you are expanding will impact the distribution of the skirt, so sometimes doing a little on each side is best so the skirt volume is more even. Hope this helps!

I hope this gets loads of views and more subscriptions. I enjoyed this. I would have handled the too tight skirt differently by removing all of the elastic and putting in a bigger one but your method is so much quicker and just as good.

I bought two identical pink linen skirts with back elastic to make a medium more volumous skirt, similar to your second skirt. Both skirts have back elastics and your tips have got the ideas flowing on how to work less, merge the skirt backs and make a gathered front..Thank you for sharing in a clear, down to earth way... and reminding me to put the kettle on. Hi thank you for the informative video! Im doing a skirt and found out when I finally got to the elastic it is not free its also sewn into the skirt. May I ask if you could please let me know what to do in this instance?

Hello! If the elastic is sewn to the skirt, you will need to seam rip the area you are fixing so it is free. 😖 it’s a lot of extra work when it is like this. Are you expanding or taking in the waist?
