I really like your video's but I have to correct one thing here having just done this job myself as part of a series of tasks to get the car ready for MOT (Gibraltar car). Unlike the E60 in the video mine is an E61 but I assumed they were the same and the title does say E60/61. My car is a LHD 2007 pre face-lift 525d. I was messing about for ages trying to find the adjuster at the 6 o'clock position. After 30 mins or so getting into a rage I pulled the caliper, carrier bracket and disc to find it was in the 9 o'clock position on the passenger side (UK drivers side). Once I had that figured out, adjusted it and put everything back together the other side was easier so I did that through the wheel nut hole. On that side - my drivers side/UK passenger side it is in the 3 o'clock position.

Thanks for the video it helped alot although I'm still stuck, Tried everything above and all seems ok on both wheels, but my handbrake still isn't engaging. Pulling it all the way up and still not engaging Is there something else that can be done?

@MrDirtydonuts Hi there thanks for the comment. Ok it that case I would adjust it from the base of the handbrake itself under the gaiter. If you haven't already, give that a go and let me know how you get on 👍🏻

@@TheBimmerFixer Cheers for the quick response mate appreciate that 👍 Yeah il try that in the morning, pulled my handbrake up today but it went past its usual 4/5 clicks and I heard a 'plink'. Now it's clicks all the way up but nothing happening even after following your vid (which was a massive help btw 👍) and adjusting the shoes which seem to be fine.
@TheBimmerFixer
@TheBimmerFixer Жыл бұрын
@MrDirtydonuts No problem happy to help! Yeah give it a go mate failing that a cable could have stretched or snapped but that doesn't happen that often. Fingers crossed its just the adjustment on the handbrake.

@@TheBimmerFixerok so pulled the car apart today and pushed the spring back under the handbrake (was all the way out), then went to the rear and repeated the process but put the handbrake up 4 clicks first, then tightened the cogs in the hub so they were locked hoping when I release the handbrake the shoes would release, unfortunately still nothing. Any more suggestions I'm totally stumped unless the shoes are worn but they don't seem to be because they are locking with the cog turn. Doesn't seem like a snapped cable either 🤦

There is ment to be a spring under handbrake lever that needs locked down before you adjust shoes at rear, was that done?

i know this is gonna sound daft, but i can`t find the bloody adjuster wheel for the rear drum brake on my LCI 2010 e61, i`ve looked with a torch, found the end of the spring, but just can`t see it anywhere, i have a feeling it may be rounded off?

@@TheBimmerFixerThis was a BIG pain to do with my friend when we did the driveshaft support bearing on a lift with limited hand tools. (His car) We propped an empty 150l oil barrel next to the car and he climbed up and down to start and stop the engine and to operate the automatic gearbox while I then tightened the axle bolts :D Could have been muuuch easier but we lacked the reverse torx for the rear bolts so we had to separate the shaft at the u joint...

i`ve been watching other utubers videos on this procedure and a LOT of them state that you have to depress a spring INSIDE the car, located underneath the handbrake lever, who`s correct me old mucker ?
@TheBimmerFixer
@TheBimmerFixer 2 жыл бұрын
@t5jerry Hi Buddy! So yeah absolutely you can adjust it under the handbrake but it usally doesn't give you the same amount of adjustment than if you did it from the hub. Given that your adjustment screw in your hub is being a trouble child it might be worth giving that a go. Let me know how you get on 👍🏻
