Which way do you rotate for more or less hot water???

The missing wrinkle was... do we adjust the white plastic temp guard to the left (counter-clockwise) or to the right (clockwise) to make the water hotter? Guests are complaining about warm water in the guest bathroom.... it's just fine in all of the other bathrooms. So now I have it apart (thank you for the video) but you're not clear on which way one runs for hotter or colder. At the moment the temp guard (I'm not clear on the plumber lexicon) is at 12 noon.

I believe turning it clockwise water would be cooler and counter clockwise would be warmer.

@@D.B._CooperMLMCGotcha! The objective is to adjust that "safety washer" such that you're able to turn the faucet handle further to the left... counterclockwise from the noon position towards the 9 o'clock position. The further you're able to turn the faucet to the left, the warmer the water. Hence the "safety washer" or whatever they call it... I call it the government intruding on my hot showers! Per these videos one "simply" removes the washer and reinstalls it by a few gears, in either direction, your preferred temps depending. I don't have it in front of me but I agree, it gets confusing.... if you want it hotter and you've reinstalled it too many gears the wrong way, the faucet handle might be more at 2 o'clock (colder) instead of 10 o'clock (hotter). Determine all of that prior to fastening everything back up... it's a quick determination. My problem was that my "safety washer" assembly only allows for one position... take it off, spin it either way and you can't reinstall the faucet assembly at all! Soooooooooo... I just took the "safety washer" off entirely and am now living "dangerously" eg., guests might actually get a hot shower! Heaven forbid. I haven't seen any need for leaving it installed and it eliminates the guesswork you're experiencing. Good luck.

You are correct. I kept the plastic piece with gears on mines because I don’t want the water too hot on this particular bathroom. With water being not too hot, I adjusted so that It’s kids safe.

@@handymanschool Its a safety device and specifically for that purpose... prevent people from scalding themselves. That said, if the water is too cool at this location, adjusting or removing the guard takes care of that. We don't have kids and even if we did, the water in this shower required adjusting.

Correct... they say spin the guard counter clockwise BUT it won't reinstall when adjusted left of "12 o'clock" so I just removed the damn thing. Now the hot handle pivots all the way to 9 o'clock! And the water's hot.

I wanted to go left of 12 o'clock so I could lower the temp of my hot water heater. I ended up leaving it at 12 o'clock. Seems like a safety feature.
@peterbell96838 ай бұрын
@micheleh7652 as I said just remove the spin guard and reassemble. Faucet should twist left to 9 o'clock.
