this is a video showing you how you can adjust the pitch range on a technics 1200/1210 MKII, the factory setting is +8 and -8 but follow the video and you can ever increase it to +12 and -12 or decrease to +3 and -3 beter for fine tuning.
WARNING ALWAYS UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS BEFORE OPENING YOUR TURNTABLE.
problems you may run into.
if the potentiometer is stuck and wont move (very rare but it does happen)do not force it, use a tiny bit of olive oil on a cotton bud and dab a TINY bit round the botom of the pot and leave for 10 minutes dont use wd40 or other water displacing Penetrating fluid some are quite corrosive. if this doesent work it may need replacing or way your options and consider not doing anything just leave it on the factory setting.
WARNINGS:
always unplug before you open anything.
never touch the voltage selector it will be set to your regions power suply.

I did this successfully with my MKV's. However, it should be noted that the pitch range potmeter is a rather tiny screwhole in that version compared to the one demonstrated in the video, so precision in marking the neutral spot is required. Also, tweaking this does come with a cost: when you play a record in the added +4 range, you will inevitably lose some bass because of the increased pitch. So if you're doing that in the mix, you may want to boost the bass beyond the neutral point on that channel to compensate. I tested this with Oliver Just - I'm A Disco Dancer (Dave Clarke Remix) and Bayon - S Soup. May be less noticable in drum & bass tracks because of the already abundant bass, but in less bass-dense genres, especially house, it will be very apparent.

@entagled1 Hi there, I'm sorry for the late reply I hope it's not too late. As long as you didn't short anything out your turntable will be fine. You won't do any damage by opening it up with the power cable still connected, as long as you do not short anything out inside with screwdrivers, no damage will occur. And if you lift the platter up with the power still connected, as long as the timetable is switched off that's fine, it's safe to do that. Thank you for your comments. Nice one!!!

@mitsubishistuntchin oh ouch thats not good, the trouble is the sugar amongst other thing in the drink will probably start to corrode stuff in there including the resistive strips in the fader, so depending on how long its been in there will depend on how badly it may corrode the fader. thats what it sounds like. to be honest i think the best bet is going to be to replace the fader as thats the cheapest part to change. thanks for your comment and if you need any more help let me know ill help.

Nice video, however I don't think it is possible to set a 1210mk2 to anything other than +/-8 pitch range. I have made this ajustment before increasing the pitch to the maximum range possible and then manually calculated the increase by counting how many times the 'T' on my Technics slipmat passed the strobe in a minute at 45rpm + full pitch. This worked out at about 52rpm which is an increase of a little over 15%. However the downside to this increase is that you get the 'double zero pitch' fault because turning the blue variable resistor results in moving the zero pitch point and not giving you an increase on both + and - pitch. when I had +15% pitch my zero point was at around -4 (plus the quartz lock at 0). I tried setting the decks to around +12% which resulted in the zero point being near to -2 (plus quartz lock at 0).

Yes just a few screws and a connection plug. You will probably have to calibrate it tho. Which will require a multimeter and a youtube how to video.

@iteamy
@iteamy 7 жыл бұрын
It's not so much a mod as a recalibration. Yes you can do it easily. I'm pretty sure you can go to crazy speeds like +20% or more but you'll have less fine tuning, and I your minus speeds will be the opposite so only -6% if you do +10% - I might be wrong there - I've never actually done it, I always fix it up to be factory calibration
@DjTecniq
@DjTecniq 7 жыл бұрын
K, Yeah I think I'll just try to test this out. +8 pitch adjustment is very outdated as newer turntable now have +10% or higher. I use Serato and have Pitch N' Time but being limited to only +8% pitch adjustment really doesn't help so the plugin is kind of useless.

How can a pitch range change unless people are like many dj's said back then , people not respecting their materials others doing stupid stuff like standing on the platter itself or stuff . Then wannabe pretenders who thinks there needs to reparations eveywhere . The only changes to do with a Technics SL-1200's is adding oil to the rotor and thats it . If your pitch is malfuntioning it means it isn't a pure manufactured turntable since start and has been cheated or hacked .

I tried this on both of my 1200m3d's and all it does is move the 0 point. I get approx -6 and +10, so it is a bit faster, but not wider (does that make sense?). Is there something I'm doing wrong, or does this just not work on an m3d model?

Hi, 2 weeks ago my tone arm went out "bearings" so I just replaced that today. Thank you for the great videos btw. But once I plugged it back in my pitch control is acting weird. Its set at 0% on the big dot but once you take it off the click/light goes off the pitch goes up to the top small dot on platter. It does this when you move the pitch control +/- as soon as it clicks off the light. Adjusting screw isn't helping. Any idea what my problem might be?? I'd appreciate any help, Michael
