When I wiggle the freewheel on my fs90r when at TDC the valves still move slightly. When I wiggle the freewheel when not at TDC the valves move much more. I have two fs90r and only one of them has the valves slightly move still when the freewheel is wiggled at TDC. What's up with that? New to the channel great stuff thanks.

Hi Steve. This is the best video that I have seen on KZbin! You do an amazing job of describing the process of setting up the valves with the feeler gauge. I could not find any of those feeler gauges in this town! Thanks for showing us how to use a regular gauge by cutting a sliver off of the end of the gauge. No other individual explained that we could use the .004 inches which is .10mm gauge! I appreciate that you're so thorough! I thank you so very much!

Picked one of these babies up from a neighborhood garbage pick. No fuel was going into primer bulb. I was prepping the carburetor for a rebuild before taking it off machine. Sprayed with carburetor cleaner to remove all the crud and shot it with compressed air and now it runs awesome. Guess the rebuild will have to wait another day. Going to hit the valve adjustment next as routine maintenance. Thanks Steve for your expertise.

Great info. I'll be tuning my FS 90r valves for the first time this week based on the vid. Side note, I just picked up a FS 90r at a thrift store for $20 (deal of the century) and gave it to a friend. It needed $25 in parts (mostly cosmetic) and works great. Literally started on the third pull when I brought it home. I'm forwarding this video/your channel to him.

Thanks a lot Steve on showing how to check and adjust these 4 mixes properly. Seen a couple other vids on here on doing this, but none have mentions the step about making sure you have it set on the right stroke before you start checking clearance and doing any adjusting. I think those other vids left that part out. Important step to not mention! So make sure guys when your adjusting you do this. If u wonder hey I just adjusted mine and still don’t seem quite. Could be it wasn’t on the right stroke before u started. Anyways thanks again Steve. I now know and feel comfortable enough to do this myself and not take it to dealer and drop it off just to be checked and if needed adjusted when I can do it myself in like 10min or so.

Like he said in the video, you can adjust these valves by hand, no feeler gauge necessary. The amount of slop on these valves after running a few hundred hours is very noticeable. Just adjusting the slop out is plenty good enough for routine maintenance.

Great video though... Glad to see someone else cares about good content and recognizes that good content equals a great resource for those who seek to find it. Keep up the good work... I'm actually working on some videos myself and still learning how to direct myself...

Still at the beginning, I'm betting the feelers gauges tip is a business card lol Edit: Good trick to know, guess the business card is only gonna work with the coil Thanks for the vids, thought I had an understanding of these things but you've taught me a lot!

The valves loosen faster than you'd think, but they're so tiny it's kind of expected. Machine runs well for a long time without adjustment, because there is an automatic compression release built into the cam gear. Once it gets difficult to start because compression release stops working it's past time to adjust the valves.

can you put a nut on top of the adjustment nuts? or maybe even blue loctite them?
@billmellater
@billmellater 5 жыл бұрын
It's not that the nut loosens or backs off, it's engine wear your compensating for.

Your vids are always supremely excellent. All info, no fluff. Btw it’s worth using a caliper or mic to double check the actual thickness of your feeler gauge. The trick of 1/8th turn is one I’ll use. My ht131 is running crappy so I reset the valve clearance this am. Think I set to the wrong stroke since it down on power and backfiring under load. Thanks

Wow! Its a shame I didn't find this video sooner. My Stihl H-131 polesaw got harder & harder to pull the cord - then just wouldn't start anymore - thought it had stuck clutch or something wrong with puller cord apparatus. Took to dealer, he said the valves were out of adjustment - works like a champ now!

I use a 4 stroke Ryobi engine for a GoPed, and during a ride it cut out. Every time I start it and gave gas it cut off. I did what you said at the end, fully tightened and loosend both a bit, she runs again
