I realize this is an older video, but anytime a mechanical watch is running that fast, Before you do any poking around . Check the watch to see if it is magnetized. The balance wheel spring/hair spring is easily magnetized by any number of electrical sources that are so common today. cell phones, almost any electronic equipt. Speakers etc. Very common problem. Easily diagnosed and solved. If you have a pocket compass simply pass it next to the watch if you get a significant deflection of the compass needle, it is magnetized. When someone brings me a watch with this large of a time gain the first thing I do is check for magnetic problems. A sudden gain of 25 sec/day or more is almost always a magnetic problem. trying to correct the problem by doing what you did will almost always compound the correction issues after demagnetizing/degaussing the movement. Without a timegrapher you are spinning your wheels. There are apps for iphone and android that can help. Gauss meters, and timegrapers. The phone timegraphers are reliant on the quality of the microphone . This video unfortunately won't help much.

Really do not try this unless you have a timegrapher, if you are not careful you'll spend days on it and make it worse. You need to check the beat as well, set beat first if needed then set the speed, with a timegrapher this is relatively easy as you can measure as you go. If you fiddle too much with the settings without the timegrapher you can get to a position where the watch runs badly and you can't find your way back.

Agree. Set it roughly with a timegrapher or (Android) Watch Accuracy Meter, and take notes on how it keeps time with daily use. My Vostok Amphibia loses a few seconds at day, but gains a little at night.

I noticed that after you adjusted the regulator it moved quite far so I imagine it ended up going too slow. I have some experience regulating automatic watches and is such that moving the regulator lever 1mm can make it go from fast to slow, but I usually manage to get about *10 seconds a day. I have a Steeldive watch that suddenly sped up from +5 seconds a day to +20 seconds a day, but I didn’t need to open the watch as I Googled the symptoms and found that it had become magnetised which speeds it up considerably. A cheap demagnetiser bought from Amazon solved the problem. I would advise anyone opening a watch to regulate it should hack the movement first to prevent damaging the rotating hair spring, which happened to me with 2 Invicta watches, then restart the watch after adjusting the regulator.

Spoke with my supply house/watchmaker sometime ago about any specific tool that would adjust the regulator lever on the balance cock. There appears to be non. Pushing the lever is just too course of an adjustment. I'm still looking for such a tool or may have to fashion one from a tinny socket driver using a Dremel.

@@HK-qj4im The hair spring that drives the balance wheel (the part what oscilates 6 times a second) is fine tuned to mantain this frequency (which sets the accuracy of the watch) and is made of steel. Please do not try to regulate your RADO yourself as it is very easy to damage the hairspring, not only will you void the warranty if it is a new watch you will also find you will be hit with a £300 to £500 service if returned to RADO. Take it to a professional watch repairer who will very quickly diagnose what the actual issue is without costing a fortune.
