A chain that is not adjusted properly (too long or too short) can result in a damages rear derailleur. Matt shows us how to size a chain properly when you need to adjust your boom length.

I just got my trike and the boom was too long. I got a chain tool at the bike store. When I got home I watched this video. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the pliers they use, but found that I could unattached the master link with my hand and reattach it after I removed the links. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised how well it went. Thanks for the video!

Thanks. My Catrike Expedition arrived this week. The boom was set right by Utah Trikes, but the chain is way too long. This video tells me what I need to know to work on it. Use the Small, and the Small is very helpful.

I wish you guys are continue to do videos like this because it's really helpful I mean in my area nobody is doing trike work so it'd be really nice if I could do my own and know what I'm doing hopefully you'll do and have more detail and more of an explanation like this I don't know where that change supposed to lay on the derailleur and because I don't know that I don't know how to do it you know I don't have somebody standing there beside me telling me that this is the right way wrong way all I have is this video

so you with the chain in the smallest chainrings on both ends and the derailleur close to the 9 o'clock position and my boom set where I need it will tell me that I have sufficient chain to use all three chain rings on the front? because with my boom set to the desired length, right now I am limited to using the first two chain rings, it won't shift into the largest chain ring. so if I am thinking right I need more chain?

Just bought a sun ez-sx Tadpole 24 speed. It looks to me like the chain is rubbing on each other at one point. Not sure what the problem would be or if it should be like that. Tia

I like the way you cleverly have your hand blocking the view as you cut, remove and replace the chain. So as a novice I'm seeing nothing.

Also no explanation on how to use the chain tool which each one has very specific instructions on where to put the chain in the tool depending on if you are joining or removing links as well as an exact number of turns to disengage the pin from the chain without completely removing the pin. And trust me, putting the pin back in is a trick in itself. No discussion of how to size the boom, i.e. how much leg bend the rider should have. And oh by the way you can do the whole thing with just the chain tool and not even using a master link.

do you have a video showing how to mount and set up the chain with a chain tensioner and how to add that extra chain with the tensioner? that would help a lot since the person I know is in Winnipeg Manitoba who needs this so his family can ride the trike at different times and could use the video as well. The procedure is the same once the chain is routed through the tensioner as per the instructions.
