There are a couple more options out there for the penny pinchers and cheap DIYers. For the penny pincher’s there are what’s called stop-a-flats, basically yellow dense foam solid tube inserts. For the cheap DIYers: Take an old tire of the same size, cut the beading off, use it as a tire liner (similar to Tannus armour inserts, just cheaper, lol) and then insert a thorn resistant tube. There are other vids out there that can show you how! I’ve gone this route and it’s working so far!!!
@danandkiko Жыл бұрын
Good idea. I've been using the old inner tube (cutting it) and putting it around the new tube. It also seems to work pretty well. Especially good for being free.

Kevlar liners would absolutely protect the inner tubes from ever being punctured. Even by nails.

I put the Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires on my trike, and got a flat from a thorn on the FIRST day. Just proves, as good as they are, they aren’t flat proof. I’ve had them five years now, and haven’t had another flat.
@chrisby7772 жыл бұрын
You’ve had them 5 years? You must only do a few miles/klms on them. I put new shwalbe tyres on my trike and they are looking pretty rough after 3600 klms but I think I’m a bit rough on the cornering. Cheers.

I just had a screw enter my back e-bike tire. It went through the tire and Mr. Tuffy liner, but the FlatOut sealant sealed the hole with very little air loss. Double your protection and double your fun. Their is nothing wrong with redundancy and it will keep you from walking your bike many miles, or save you time with an on-the-spot repair job. Who knows what type of weather conditions await you?

Slime, FlatAttack also pose problems.. if the goop sets up in the stem, it can make it impossible to pump up a tire. This blockage requires replacing the tube.. I chose the Schwalbe: Marathon PLUS, BigBenPLUS, or BigApplePLUS that are e-50 rated for ebikes.. These have incredibly high puncture protection.. I have ridden over 7k miles in the last 5 years.. and since upgrading to the PLUS series from Schwalbe, i have not had any flats..

In the last 1,000 miles on my Catrike 5.5.9, I've had 6 flats; ALL from goat heads, and all at the edge of the tread at the base of the sidewall; not on the bottom of the tire. I have a Catrike 700 on order from you, and I'll use this great video to decide what to do about puncture protection.

I bought a secondhand GS GT3 with factory slicks, one by one over 2 months each tyre got a flat. Turns out the clueless previous owner fitted those green and black liners upside down, overlapping and the edges split the thin tubes. Patched the tubes and tossed the liners in the bin. You'd have to glue them in with slicks to get them to stay put while refitting the tyre- bugger that. Bought a set of thorn resistant tubes for my magnum bw i haven't put in yet, not til i get my first flat - been 6 months and 1300km and starting to think it was an unnecessary precaution!

Or, go tubeless with something like the Schwalbe Pro One TL (available in 20”). Self-healing and lower rolling resistance (faster).

AIrless... Slow, Heavy, Like Riding in Mud. Puncture Proof, Yes. Tanus Inserts. Heavy, Increased Pedal Effort. Not recommended for Performance Trikes. Schwalbe Marathon Plus (7) Excellent Tire, Holds Pressure Longer than Average. Recommend: Costco or a Auto Tire Installer to air up the trike tires with Nitrogen in Summer. Tires Stay Cool when ground temps are High= Less Chance of tire failure. Maintains Tire Pressure in Colder temperatures because Nitrogen is not affected by Ambient Air Temperature. Tire Goop is good but has a serious Flaw... It eventually clogs the valve and eats up the thinner rubber around the valve. Throws off balance of tire.

Just got Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires for my 5.5.9 - Doing the install tomorrow. Better protection than the Racer tires.

High speed tires are a fantasy. You have to compromise some for flat resistance. I wonder if the overall time saved on the fastest tires outweighs the time saved on avoiding having to stop to fix a tire which means slower tires. We have to consider the real world where roads aren't all perfect condition and perfectly clean. I bought one of the same, could only afford one and front still has a lot of life left. It made a huge difference in comfort and speed compared to the gravel tire it replaced. I was going to have the bike shop order some Tannus Armor. Maybe I'll wait to see if I'll ever need it.

I need to ask a question, or 2. Do you guys tell the riders that if they get off the bike trail with the stock rear tire that they will sit a spin or have to get up and out if their Trike to get back on the trail. I had to after my first ride on my Catrike Dumont. I just sat and spun my rear tire. So I bought a more aggressive tire like a mountain bike tire that works great, now the second question, does the Tannus tires come with an aggressive tread?
@ChristopherKnN2 жыл бұрын
Go to their website. Tread patterns are limited. I'm getting some Tannus tires for my kid's bmx bike.
@SFCRambo602 жыл бұрын
@@ChristopherKnN but still shoppers should be told that they may want to get a more aggressive tire from the get go before finding out later and think it's a bad trike, which at first that's what I thought. Just sitting and spinning sucked, had to get up, walk the trike out onto the trail, before continuing to ride. I think Catrike should from the get go put a more aggressive tire on their Trikes or have it as an option.
@ChristopherKnN2 жыл бұрын
@@SFCRambo60 I have changed the tires immediately on every bike I've ever bought to place an appropriate one for my riding conditions. The majority of manufacturers will place a general purpose tire for the type of bike that is the lowest cost to them. And all roads and trails are different, so it would be impossible for them to choose the perfect tire for where you ride. I usually upgrade brake pads and cables immediately as well.

I ride in NYC and get flats often simply due to things left in the road/path. I have gotten a 3" fish hook, a razor blade and other wonderful stuff thru my tires. Thinking of the Flat Attack just to stop the smaller holes. Would a single 16oz bottle work for a 26" tire/.
