I totally agree that it is about WHO you know! I landed my dream job teaching for a top district in my state because I built a solid relationship with my boss of 5 years who left to open a brand new high school. There were only 65 people hired out of 400 applicants and because I knew him and had built a quality relationship, I stood out among the crowd! Also, you don't get what you don't ask for, so ASK for the job! The worst you'll get is no, but you never would have known had you not asked!
@novakate6 жыл бұрын
jmm_2104 this is SO important! I had my eye on my dream job out of college at the company I interned for. I interned for the nyc office so the people in nashville didn’t know me. I called hr multiple times about the job, each time they said “ they’ve already picked someone” and I finally said “well the jobs been posted up and taken down for months and is still up so even if they’ve already picked someone I’d love to at least have the chance to show them my resume and get some advice on how to get another position in the future” 5 mins later I got a call about an interview and 2 days later I was offered the job! In competitive situations it’s all about relationships and persistence!

The whole episode I was fascinated over the difference between 30 year olds in the US and us here in Europe. Very few people I know who are close to 30 are married, have kids or have a stable career. I'm 25 and just finished uni! People usually don't get married and have children before they are in mid-30s

Rachel, I personally think you look great in that "neon highlighter" color. Feel free to keep wearing it. I'm nearing 50 and I think I look great in navy blue or cranberry. Most people say I look good in cream and brown but I don't feel good in those colors so I'll stick with what makes me feel good about me.

As someone who will turn 56 this year, the "what not to wear when you turn 30" segment was pretty funny. While I agree with watching the Ingenue look after a certain age, you need to dress for the situation/job more than anything else. And that jacket was not too bright to wear! Good lord! As a pale, blonde woman, there have always been bright colors that don't work for me, but there are also some that do! Trial and error. You have a great sense of style, so go with your instincts!

Rachel seems so much more mature than 30! I turn 35, I really thought she was in her 40s (but in good way - most 29yr olds are really behind in life). I mean, what 30yr old do you know who has already written a book and has their tv show?

Loved this video! P.S. Ross Dress For Less gets Sam Edelman shoes in occasionally, the highest price I've seen as a prior stock employee is ~50ish for Boots. The heels are normally around 30-35. Very affordable. I love Sam Edelman. :) I'm in central FL by the way, in case its different prices for different locations.

I hate to be “that guy” haha but your video team will have a lot more luck keying the TV screen if they dim it down a ton and use a polarizer to get the screen to be just the right brightness. That will help the blue spill on their faces. Using backlight can help reduce spill as well. I’m a director editor for a large tech company so I’m keying phone or tv screens all the time. If you have to “fix it in post” check out the key light plugin from red giant! Also, I’m sure it didn’t help that Ken wore a blue shirt when you are using blue to key the screen. Again, sorry to be that guy. I’m a total video nerd. Love the show! Keep it up!

My son is 26 and still living at home. He does pay his own way as far as cell phone and insurance, toiletries, etc. but we don't charge him rent. He has a good paying job for his age and has looked at homes but just too expensive to be single and live on his own right now.

I lived in an apartment when I was 23 and had a good job. It gave me dignity. I thank my parents for expecting that of me.
@karenhobson68096 жыл бұрын
Obviously, I don't know how long ago it was that you were 23 years old, so it could have been a very different day and time. Rent in our area is $1200-$1400 a month, which is comparable to a house payment. Tag on utilities, insurance, groceries, etc., and it becomes very difficult.

Karen Hobson then he can get a roommate to share the bills. I moved out the minute I could and am so glad I did. I would have missed out on those character building lean times - without them, when you’re older and hard times hit you panic and think you can’t handle it! Don’t let him continue to live rent free .. you’re not helping but hindering him. Never again in his life will he have so much spending money yet he will be accustomed to this type of spending
@SarahtheDietitian6 жыл бұрын
It was just 10 years ago. Rent was about $950 for me as a single lady. Utilities were cheap because it was a 1 bedroom apartment. Groceries were doable because I had learned to eat cheap during college. I moved about 1000 miles away from my parents and blossomed in my career, which laid a great foundation for my future. Married an amazing hard-working man, and blessed my parents with 4 grandchildren by the time I was 31.
@karenhobson68096 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your comment, and if he wasn't working and expecting us to carry him, I would definitely see your point, but he's doing just fine and not being hindered by being allowed to reside with us and not have to pay rent. We received help as a young couple many years ago, we helped our daughter who became a single mom at 18 years old, moved out at 24 and struggled until she was 30 - when she finally got a clue and is now doing well. He's not spoiled by any means, he works hard 6 days a week, he has his own bills to pay including a student loan and pays them all on time and never asks us for money. He is also a saver...he actually has the money for a 10% down pymt on a home once he find the right one for him....he's looking. He has the rest of his life to adult...I really am enjoying seeing him travel (went to Ireland in Feb) and do some things that he enjoys before he gets married some day and settles down.
