@@Jmbr-eh6xr We can't skip the practice and we learn those little secrets while practice.
@Jmbr-eh6xr2 жыл бұрын
@@raytry69 One of the things they don't tell you about when shooting a slingshot is that the slingshot has to be custom size to yourself; width of the fork and size of your face affects where the anchor point should be, few millimetres off means the difference between a pin point accurate shot and a miss, When GP J says the anchor point he uses is at the corner of the lip, that is what is right for him with the width of slingshot frame he uses, if someone else picks up that slingshot, they may not get as accurate a shot, when shooting slingshots and bows, the thing is your body is a part of the weapon; the reference and anchor points are the foresight and rear iron sights respectively, except in a slingshot the foresight which is the reference point is higher that the rear sight in the case of a Rifle or handgun, it may seem a bit weird, but that's how it works Once you get those nailed down, you will get accurate shots that can put meat in the pot

One of the lessons I learned shooting Archery was the importance of FOLLOW THROUGH after the shot, and I haven't seen it addressed in any how to shoot a slingshot videos. Which is the subconscious tendency to anticipate the shot and relaxing one or both of your hands and/or the body position prematurely, also called peeking. The fix is to hold your entire hand and body positions until the shot hits the target. Then relax. Also allow a brief time interval between the shots. To allow the muscles to recover and your brain to process the prior shot. Don't hurry and instantly begin reloading for the next shot thus blurring all the shots together!
@Nazareth4346 ай бұрын
that is probably the single most important bit of advice that i have found- as long as im totally concentrated on holding the slingshot hand steady i can really zero in on the target consistently- but it's hard to keep remembering to do that- and after a dozen or more misses- it comes back to me that I wasn't holding slingshot hand position until target is reached=- -

wonderful wonderful wonderful! I enjoy that you are not telling people that there is only one way. You are right that as long as you are hitting the target you are doing what suits you. I have taught rifle and handgun marksmanship and my classes were very similar to this class. It was nice for me to have it broken back down from grade one and worked up from there. I would love to be one of the guys that can not think and just shoot but I think there are years ahead of me before that. So I am going to take your thumb to cheek method and see where that takes me. Thanks again for your videos. Now if I can use your other video and attach my pouch and straps then we will see how I do. ha ha

Excellent advice here, John. The techniques you describe are in fact similar to archery, where the bow string anchor is commonly the tip of the nose. Body alignment i.e. standing sideways with the feet aligned is also important. Holding one's breath while aiming and shooting can also help (something I learned with firearms). As you say, consistency to ensure reference and anchor alignment, but also constant draw weights, is essential to achieve accuracy. Centering ammo in the pouch not only improves accuracy, but also helps to avoid fork hits. Ballistics is another key issue: BB weights should be consistent. The only time that these techniques do not necessarily work is when shooting according to the so-called "semi-butterfly" or "full butterfly" method to obtain maximum power: do you have any advice for this shooting style in terms of accuracy?

Thanks John for a great informative tutorial. Hoping you could confirm before I get out next to practice, My reference is centrally locked for windage, but having to guess my elevation all the time which is constantly going high using my chin as the anchor, I appreciate one or two maybe off due to release issues, but having revisited your video I suspect raising my anchor to the corner of my mouth or even my eye socket instead of my chin, will direct my shots down and hopefully negate the need to reference guess my aiming elevation, which is presently way below the intended target point.
