Just stumbled across this lesson and it finally struck home. I've been doing this very thing, aligning my shoulders to the target and causing the cross and causing pushes and hooks. Thanks Matt for the lesson , cant wait to try this out. So well explained.

Matt another great video on alignment, one of the key fundamentals of playing good and enjoyable golf. The alignment sticks are a brilliant idea idea and also picking your line and laying the club on this aswell. I have had difficulty in doing this correctly in the past but now following your tips it is much clearer. I will practice these tips, as I want my game to improve.

It’s a form of parallax view issue and the temptation to set a target based on a point in the distance which is further away than we can hit the ball. It’s often why it’s easier to set up for a target on a short par 3 shot, within the range of a 7 iron than a point with a driver, 350m away when we can hit the ball only 240m

Totally agree on setting the club face to target but I follow the Jim Venetos philosophy where the shoulders are very closed to target throughout the swing and yet I still send the ball straight or baby draw down the target line, so is body really that important as long as shoulders stay rooted in the same position throughout the swing to impact? 🤔

Hi Matt - I don't understand how one can say that if the club face is aimed at the target and the body & feet etc are aimed 10 yds or so left of the target that one is aimed parallel left. Surely the body would then be aligned open to the target line. It seems logical to me that to be truly parallel aligned the body etc must be aimed only 2 to 4 feet left of target depending on the club being used. Similarly, if one aimed the body at the target and aligned the club face truly parallel then the club face would be aimed only 2 to 4 feet right of the target - what would be the problem with that?

Train tracks appear to meet in the distance
@texrex4580
@texrex4580 4 жыл бұрын
The train track analogy derails more swings than it fixes. Stand on any train track and you will clearly see the tracks appear to converge, even over short distances (100 yds). This is what causes golfers to misunderstand the "train track" analogy. It's really not a useful method for visualising the body vs target line aim point. You also confuse people by saying your shoulders should be aiming 10-15yds left of your intended target. Considering your club head and ball are only 4 feet apart at address, why would you need your shoulders to appear 10-15 yds left at the target?? Again, this is an issue with visual perspective and trying to compensate for it. Sorry but these mental pictures simply don't work well for most golfers. Better to focus on parallel body alignment at the address position, as you did at the beginning and not relate this directly to the target. The method of using a point on the ground, 10-20 feet in front of the ball on its intended path, is a far better alignment method. When trying to aim from the golf swing position (as opposed to down a gun sight) we can aim much more accurately over short distances compared to long ones, due to the influence of perspective on our assessment of the target position.

@AvgJoe0007
@AvgJoe0007 4 жыл бұрын
@@sausagembape677 The problem is with the title of his video. He's not giving a complete lesson on how to aim on a golf course. Because of course you cannot legally use alignment sticks during a round of golf. He's trying to help correct a common misalignment error between golfer's clubface aim direction and their shoulder and hips aim direction. And he's actually making some helpful advice here with that. I appreciate your point. But I appreciate his too.
