Crosshair placement still matters in games where there are no headshots. Always preaiming angles vs always looking around is a trade off between awareness and aim. Quake and cs/Val favor crosshair placement because awareness comes from prediction instead of reaction, overwatch and tf2 favor looking around because people come from everywhere and you can’t always accurately predict where people will be.

Crosshair placement is something similar to spy checking. Imagine, if you will, you are approaching a corner and before you turn left, you shoot the corner on the right. Sometimes there is nothing but then other times... You find an angry spy that once you kill him, he will claim you are hacking for having game sense. You don't know where the opponent will be but with proper game sense, you will tend to aim and shoot at places you will think players are. Honestly I'm surprised more people aren't calling soldiers and demos hackers for just shooting at the floor near cover and killing someone out of just pure luck or them thinking someone is behind a crate with the amount of people calling you a hacker for having game sense.

I have done a lil bit of coaching for overwatch and during vod reviews something that I notice is that players who do not play as often tend to forget about crosshair placement in a longer game/match. when people get fatigued they end up falling into sloppy habits, so practicing crosshair placements while you play casually is quite important in my opinion. Since if you are able to make proper placement your habit, then you will naturally fall into good placement even when fatigued.
