The variegation is Polaroid variegation I believe. It starts as yellow & develops as the leaf hardens. Over time, the yellow green will fade to cream & look more white like your older leaves. Your bright red petioles on the first beauty are soooo pretty. I believe the space with the internodes I believe has to do with the amount of light received. The higher the light, the shorter the internodes is how I understand it. I sell plants on Etsy recently, UNCUTplants & just chopped my beauty. I airlayered mine also & have had 100% success & all of them are putting out new leaves! I didn’t lose any so just do it! I’m a PROPAGATION WHORE!! 😉 I’m addicted to chopping up my plants!

Ah interesting. I've never heard of it. I'll have to check it out.100% success rate is awesome! How long did it take to root once air layered?

@@petevsplants7516 I should have documented it but I didn’t. There were already aerial roots starting & I think I chopped after like 2 month on every node. I had to wait for my window without a new leaf & I was kinda nervous to chop this wishlist plant. I’m soooo glad I did & definitely could have chopped a little sooner. Either way, it worked & they are all still alive. Out of 5, I’ve sold 1, 1 looks reverted so I’m watching it & will experiment possibly, & the other 3 I’m struggling to part with cuz they are gorgeous!

@@petevsplants7516 my other secret with 1 node cuttings to help them produce a growth point faster (if you are selling & need quick turn around) Leuko paste. I don’t always use it but, it works when I have. I used it on several Monstera Albo cuttings & all are still doing great 6 months later. They were air layered also which helps the faster process too. It’s a high concentration of vitamins to the node & just helps active it. If done on a plant not cut, it can confuse the the plant. Like, where do I grow from & you could get stunted growth. But 1 node cuttings have done great in my experience!

Congrats! Channel is growing like that Florida beauty! Keep up the great content and on to 10k. Wish I wasn’t so far way, would love to get some of those props. I feel like adding a moss pole might be a simpler way to air layer those. Looking forward to results.

Ok, so this is my 3rd try at posting this.. unless they did post and I can’t see them🤔 I put my plants, including cuttings,on a moss pole as soon as possible. You don’t have to water the entire moss pole only the part near the plant or cutting. If you keep the moss pole moist the plants will root into it. You can then cut between as many nodes as you like, open the moss pole and you have rooted plants ready for potting.

I was wondering if it was epigenetics coming into play, I did do a bit of learning back in the day (which I have mostly forgotten) when there was a lot of hype around it. Even the treatment of mother stock can have impacts on the future generations. All very interesting but way over my head 😅
@petevsplants7516
@petevsplants7516 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I actually read up on some studies showing that people who exercised regularly and maintained a healthy weight prior to conceiving a child pass on many benefits to their kids. Makes sense that it would allow you to adapt more quickly to your immediate environment and pass it on to your kids without the need for many generations of selection.
@mdolley11
@mdolley11 2 жыл бұрын
@@petevsplants7516 there was a study, and don’t quote me cause I heard this almost 10 years ago that showed if your maternal grandfather during his development years 8-14 I think suffered from famine and malnutrition whilst there was no immediate damage to him, his male grandchildren were tracked and shown to be significantly shorter, so no expression of the epigenetic change in his immediate children but the grandchildren. It was all very interesting to see how the were applying this learning to plants

I have a feeling that the Florida Beauties that you have with short inter-nodal spacing are tissue culture. I’ve seen a lot of sellers from Thailand who sell tissue culture Florida Beauties. I have a tissue culture Florida Green and it did the exact same thing. Short inter-nodal space, leaves that were small and then sized up quickly. The inter-nodal spacing gets longer as the plant gets older.

Interesting... It's funny to see which plants are more desirable to people too. I spoke to a few people in the business when I was purchasing some albos a few months back and they were like "DO NOT GET LEGGY PLANTS! They aren't desirable or worth as much". But when I check out listings and sales online, it seems most people aren't aware of this "fact", and don't care about internodal spacing.

Would you do a video on your decision to invest in plants? And/or about your plant selling ideas? You talk about selling all the time and I’m so curious to hear your thoughts on the plant market (Australia, EU, UK, US plant markets included if you have opinions there?)

Hey Alexis, great idea. I'll see what I can do. I haven't actually sold much to be honest. I'm at the stage of acquiring and growing my "stock" out so that I can then have a continuous stream of cuttings/plants to sell from it. But will try to tackle this topic in the near future. If you have any other specific questions related to this, please let me know in a reply so I can address them too. Feel free to ask me anything. I'm an open book.
