Joe is a natural star, he has nothing but talent and potential, but they’re really playing a dangerous game by giving him THAT O-line. This season better show major improvement or they’re going to ruin the value and potential of this team.

The Bengals drafted an OT @ pick 46 & another @ 139. In free agency they signed 3 guys to 1 yr contracts. Positional spending for the offensive line is in the lower 50% of the league. We’re sure going to see just how good Joe Burrow is going to perform under pressure this coming season!

This is like when Freddie kitchens tried to turn the browns into the chiefs even though they were a team built for the run game. It's completely ignoring your needs and not knowing your personal. Do the Bengals need another WR? Sure but really with the 5th pick in a STACKED wr class when you desperately need oline?
@Don_east3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s really that cause stefanski was giving baker a lot more pure dropbacks and less play action later in the season and the offense got better but kitchens had a very very short gameplan with a “fuck it” mentality. Worst decision when your qb was bruised, wrs just went through offseason surgery. Little to no consistency with that offense if your trying to get a rhythm going for passing

Bengals signed OL, drafted an OL in the 2nd, and got a proven OL coach. If they kept their WR trio of Boyd, Higgins, then Tate that would be maybe the 25th best receiving corps in the NFL. Chase gives them a chance to be near the top instead of scraping the bottom.

Bengals did draft Carman Jackson, the Left tackle out of Clemson that protected Trevor's blindside while he was there, in the second round. We also drafted 2 other solid linemen in the later rounds, also we signed Reiff in FA. This is literally the most tired and lazy argument ever. Anyone who flatly states that the Bengals are trash for passing on Sewell is just showing how little they know about football and how much they watch espn. Why are they not trashing the Dolphins too? They picked a worst WR over Sewell and had a worst OLine than the bengals last year. And the bengals removed their two biggest liabilities from the starting lineup. When Burrow got hurt, they were on their backup to the backups in interior Oline. They added a 2nd rounder, who was projected by some to be the second best GUARD prospect in the draft and signed Reilly Reiff. They aren't world beaters, but they are remarkably better than they were at some points last year. And again, if you had actually watched the bengals, those were the two worst players on the Oine. Also, none of their receivers were getting separation. if you had watched entire bengals games, you would see Burrow had extremely tight windows to throw to, and Chase will be a huge help for that. Did you know that AJ Green got 104 targets last year and caught less than half of those? That is who Chase is replacing. Did everyone want to see the other Micheal Thomas getting 104 targets? Or Auden Tate? Those guys aren't NFL recievers. And we needed someone who could come in and play and contribute right away, which Chase can do and it's a much lower percentage on if a second rounder could do it, especially since a large majority of the 2nd round recievers were slot WRs, exactly what the Bengals already have. They needed a good X receiver. And now they got one.
@Js181003 жыл бұрын
I was also surprised when their first pick wasn't protection. I think its cool that they got someone who their QB has a ton of experience and chemistry with, but man...seeing as how their injured QB won't even be starting the coming season, it feels worrying that that choice was made. After watching the Draft/offseason - has there been enough time/events to change how confident are you that any of last seasons treatment of their signal caller will change?
@marshallstewart46753 жыл бұрын
You kind of explained the reasoning for Jamaar, while explaining why we should've drafted Penei. Also....we drafted three OL in the draft, including one in the second round. So...we didn't actually neglect it.
@CrewsTheWildDawg3 жыл бұрын
I think the Bengals have improved on the offensive line. Getting Riley Reiff was a quality signing. And drafting Jackson Carman and Trey Hill to rebuild the interior to go along with Trey Hopkins was great value. I don’t think the Bengals messed up by not drafting Sewell because the tackles were not the problem, it was the interior. Michael Jordan isn’t a starting caliber lineman, Billy Price is a certified bust, and Quinton Spain is clearly washed. Jackson Carman is most likely better off at guard, and Trey Hill is a VERY underrated player. He should compete with Spain for the right guard spot. Think I’m wrong? Go watch his tape against Derrick Brown. It’s damn impressive. I think they’ll be better on the offensive line, while Burrow gets his right hand man back. It’s a win-win.

Not drafting Penei Sewell because you signed Riley Reiff to a one year contract (void year) is why bad teams stay bad
@christianpeterson29523 жыл бұрын
Riley Reiff on a 1 year contract shouldn’t stop you from drafting a franchise LT in Sewell or even Slater. Yeah you now have quality on the offensive line, but if you want to go empty like Taylor wanted to do early in the season last year (even with the dialing back they were still the team that used that formation type the most) the offensive line needs to be strength, and more importantly, the tackles need to be a strength. Riley Reiff and Jonah Williams isn’t a strength. You draft Sewell and he doesn’t perform as well as Reiff or Williams outside. That’s alright, he can be a very good swing tackle and you have enough depth to keep a talent like Sewell on the bench or he can be an all-pro level guard (something I don’t think Carman can be). Especially in a division with Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Baltimore, offensive line should always be a priority in that division. You could still build the interior later in the draft if you take a OT at 5 and you could’ve gotten Dyami Brown or Terrace Marshall (who is an LSU receiver with a connection to Burrow) in the second and then you turn the offensive line into a dominant one and you can run any type of formations or concepts you want

Only about 5 teams in the NFL can claim LT isnt a need if they are in a position to pick Sewell and the Bengals arent among them.. Miles freaking Garrett is going to eat your lunch twice a year for the foreseeable future.

They have Reiff on a one year deal and Williams is injury prone it’s a need and you can easily push one of those guys into guard. Penei takes the RT position from average to great and Reiff takes the LG position from terrible to average boom I just upgraded two positions in one.

Bengals are in a good spot. The oL is better and will only continue to get better with time. bengals had a ton of injuries last year and will have the 2nd most cap next year and a good draft picks to go along with that.
@derkwayne18333 жыл бұрын
The Bengals were in rebuild mode to begin with last year with a rookie QB. Honestly. That offense didn't do too bad considering how long they were on the field because of their bottom 5 defense and injuries to the O-line to begin with. Everybody screamin about gettin offensive linemen. That offense put up points but that defense couldn't stop nobody.
@kbailey58673 жыл бұрын
No one wants to talk about how our oline was hurt all year and we got lineman in FA and the draft

People know they made some minor moves and moderately upgraded the offensive line, but we also know how great Sewell and Slater will be and the type of offensive lines all the top qbs in the league have and have had..
@alexhall97153 жыл бұрын
@@arcajeth626 that also is due to great qb play. I’m not disagreeing Sewell was the better pick, but it’s still too early to say if chase was a bad pick. Season hasn’t started yet. A lot of the time though, a great qb and receiving core can make an average oline look elite. Last I checked, the chiefs’ tackles weren’t all pro until Mahomes arrived. Not saying they weren’t good because they were, but they certainly weren’t making pro bowls every year. I’m obviously nervous heading into this season, but there’s a part of me that believes the bengals made the right long term decision in taking chase because he’s just too good of a prospect to pass up on. Sewell has a ton of potential, but there has not been a lot of Oregon prospects that have panned out in the league. Herbert is literally the exception to that rule right now. Honestly, the Bengals have done more for that line this off-season than any of the past 5 seasons. The way I see it, if they keep with this trend, the Bengals will have an electrifying offense either next year, or the year after that. Only time will tell though. I ain’t writing them off just yet for taking Chase over Sewell.

To sum up what Alex is saying is, Burrow's injury was due to the empty set that was abandon week six and even though Joe wasn't hurt til week 11, really wasn't a factor. iow, Alex talking in circles again..

It’s always a good day when AlexRollinsNFL uploads!! Yea, I was (& still am) so confused why they wouldn’t take Sewell. It’s not at all a knock on Chase, but they literally just experienced the worst case scenario consequence of not having a solid O-line last szn & idc how good Chase is, if Burrow is on his back, it won’t matter.
@AlexRollinsNFL3 жыл бұрын
Thanks JT bro! Agreed, and just taking a step back, top 10 WR draft picks have recently been a horrendous investment. Plus they just made the mistake with John Ross a few years back. I like Chase, but I'm worried no doubt

@TylerMcVeigh13 жыл бұрын
The Ja'Marr Chase pick was one of the worst picks in the draft imo. Not because I don't think Chase is an incredible talent and can be a HoF player, but because Sewell was avaliable. Burrow was 14th in QB hits and 10th in sacks and his season ended in week 11. He would have been top five in both categories if he played the full season. If the Bengals continue to rely on the passing game as heavily as they did last year, then you can never have enough WRs, but the same group that failed to protect him last year is back again. Sewell isn't going to fix that but it would have been a much needed improvement and a step in the right direction.
@aintyourfriend7773 жыл бұрын
No excuse, When your the 1st over pick QB you either show some promise and lead your team to the playoffs or your just another replacement like Bradford, Winston/mariota, and possibly kyler Murray. Cam, luck, wentz/Goff, and mayfield all got it done by year 3. Don’t give me that “joe has no help”. If he’s the real deal he’ll take the bengals to the next level. Right now, the bungals knows it’s already a 50/50 they sign joe after his rookie contract. He’s one injury away from possibly never seeing the field again. Cincy did a poor job by buying into the hype of burrow. If they had a brain they would of sign a veteran and let burrow learn especially after a one year wonder in college who had possibly the greatest wr duo ever in chase, Jefferson, and marshall. IF, and I’m pretty sure the bengals will be picking in the top ten for he next couple years, joe will be out of cincy and possibly become one of those good old KZbin stories about “what if/has been”.
@owainkanaway83453 жыл бұрын
Burrow is the real deal, but he's playing for the Bungals who for some odd reason refused to give Burrow any help whatsoever during his rookie year. This is suppose to be their franchise player but they are not setting him up for success. I don't know what is the agenda of Mike Brown, but winning isn't one of them. You are talking about the worst owner in NFL history.

Fun fact: From 2000 to 2020 there have been 77 wide receivers drafted in the first round. 8 of those 77 have made First Team All-Pro. 21 of those 77 have made the first team selections for the Pro-Bowl. 19 of those 77 have less than 100 career receptions in the NFL. Suffice to say that Ja’Marr Chase has the odds stacked against him and the Bengals really should have gone offensive lineman.

Can you not pretend we didn’t address the O line in FA and in the draft. Although we passed on a blue chip prospect ie. Sewell, the Bengals need is guard, not tackle. Jonah Williams is decent and don’t think he’s deserving of a demotion. So where do we play Sewell if Reiff is on the roster to play RT? Guard perhaps? Hedge our bets on an unproven guard playing out of position. Just not seeing the fit here imo.

I saw so many hits, and far too many of those were in stride, full force, driving through the QB, but clean and legal hits, given up by the Bengals. Hey, Cincinnati, here's a tip, whoever is going to be released by the Packers at the end of the preseason, TRADE FOR THEM before they release them!
