That's exactly what I'm doing now, game changer . Last month i bought a summer dress that I've been wanting for long. This month a t-shirt. Next month Im planning on getting a blazer (perfect for summer/autumn transition ) no more impulsive buying, and my bank account is thanking me.
@EC-dg6ti4 жыл бұрын
I started buying things based on its function and/or purpose. Like I only buy shoes I'm able to walk in and that doesn't hurt my feet. Summer shirts in linen and cotton that will keep me cool and comfortable in the summer. Bags that I can carry things in. Jackets that can survive in every weather. So no high heels, no polyester dresses, tiny bags, and things like that that makes no damn sense!

a kinda obvious but underrated tip for me is to read the washing instructions and take proper care of your clothes! people will buy nice things and then complain about how they're "bad quality" because after a few washes they look bad, but didn't read that's a hand wash/air dry only piece
@giulia20514 жыл бұрын
Basics for an alternative wardrobe (fall/winter): 1. Black platforms (ankle boots are best since they're the most versatile to style. If you can't walk in platforms I recommend creepers) 2. Black pleated skirt 3. Black pants/jeans (velvet is a good material, lace up pants are also good, they can be either skinny jeans or flared pants) 4. Black sweater/turtleneck 5. Vegan leather jacket/vegan leather trench coat/black coat with details (O rings, buckles, etc) 6. Vegan leather belt (preferably with chains/studs) (try to find one you can use both as a waist belt and a regular belt and with detachable chains so you can add them to other items as well) 7. Plaid skirt 8. Choker (vegan leather/black lace/whatever you like best) 9. One solid colour sweater (red is usually best to pair with black for an alt look, but if you want to go patterned I recommend black/white or black/red combinations. Emerald green is also a good colour for alt looks. Unless it's black or the occasional white, think mostly darker jewel tones) 10. Black dress (it's good to have one with straps that you can layer, I recommend velvet in general for alt/goth looks, and inbuilt buckle belts/metal details are always good) This is how I started creating my wardrobe when I wanted to switch to more alternative pieces :) then you can add to it but the same basics apply, especially in terms of colours (black, dark red/green/blue), fabrics (velvet, vegan leather, lace details) and accessories (if you want more punk, add metal. If you want more goth, add lace.) Hope this helps someone!
@thatonecordelia4 жыл бұрын
I love that list, it's very fun. Genuine question though - isn't vegan leather actually less environmentally friendly than buying genuine leather second hand? Genuine leather products already exist and are usually well sourced or you can find and buy second hand, meanwhile vegan leather is basically just plastic as far as I understand. Same with vegan wool and the like (especially when sheep need to be sheared either way). I've always just been sort of confused by this, sorry if it comes off as rude.
@giulia20514 жыл бұрын
@@thatonecordelia yes, second hand real leather is better, but not exactly cheap 😅 I have a few vintage items made of real leather but I made this list for people on a budget (like myself lol) and vegan leather is much cheaper and of course better for the animals and the environment than the real one. You weren't rude at all don't worry :)
@thatonecordelia4 жыл бұрын
@@giulia2051 Thanks for the answer
@marymary40934 жыл бұрын
@@thatonecordelia Great point. It's true vegan is a trendy name for synthetic fabric. It's better for animals but not better for the environment if it's fast fashion. That got me thinking, non-vegans don't really care what you wear so the only people who would comment would be animal lovers (hopefully planet lovers too) and then you could offer them this viewpoint. Like fur/leather, what's done is done, so recycling can be quite practical and kind to all. I'm equally as confused by the idea of kindness to animals while turning a blind eye to environmental costs and human rights concerns embedded in fast fashion.

In my early and mid twenties I had so much stuff (maybe in total around 800 items, especially when I still lived with my parents), and all of it trends and very cheap. Now that I'm almost 30 I find that I want to own less and not focus on trends so much, but wear what I actually love. It's hard to change this sometimes, but I'm already so much happier!

A quick note about returning clothes purchased online: a lot of clothes returned to online stores never go back in sale and are thrown away instead (esp in fast fashion). So you might want to opt out from buying clothing online unless you know the material or cut and don't need it to be form fitting. Otherwise really inspiring vid!

@@Ac-he6eu I know that H&M Europe and Zara Germany and BeNeLux put their returned clothes back into the selling cycle. I would think that all the less fast fashiony and more sustainable brands always resell returns. Can't really speak on any other fast or slow fashion because I don't buy online except for the two above. However, if you live in an area where you've got stores and they are open and you want to make sure your return will 100% not get thrown out at that point in time, return them in store cause they'll get sorted in with the store clothes. (for the other point in time: unsold store clothes will often get thrown out when new items go into rotation) Edit: Primark tosses returns

I love this! But must say it’s hard when you shop second hand 😄 I rarely buy clothes new, I like to go thrifting and vintage shopping.. but with preowned - you have to go regularly to find something you’re looking for, but every time I go I find something else that I absolutely love. 😂 and you have to make a decision right there and then, coz you can’t think for a day or two and then come back or return something. But I noticed that many things I bought are absolutely beautiful, but not so much on me. So I try to be more honest with myself in the fitting room. I will try out budget tip too!

This is so timely! I just did a MAJOR closet purge and got rid of so much stuff I didn't wear. I had piles of pieces that were impulse buys or cheap basics that had seen much better days. Since all the COVID mess, I've been doing more shopping online and have fallen in love with consignment sites and pre-owned. I've still been very selective about purchases. After purging my wardrobe, I looked at what I needed and made a mental list and have been shopping with that in mind. I've scored some fabulous deals on classic pieces I know I will love for a long time. My new wardrobe is taking shape and I am so excited to have a grown-up closet that I am proud of!

I always struggled with these videos about basics, as I never wore the silhouettes or styles considered as basics by most (jeans, to begin with, loose unicolored t-shirts, oversized anything..). This is actually the first one, that didn't try to dictate me, what has to be my basic, but made me realize I need to do a set of my own. I am gonna be thinking about it a lot - to figure out, what actually is my basic. I have several styles, sometimes they mix, sometimes they don't, and it solely depends on the occasion, I simply love to switch between them but I think there are common features I can try to point out and use as unifiers. Thank you!
