Thanks for simplifying the explication of a poem.I'm taking a 8 week course in English Comp 2 and have a teacher who's strength isn't in explaining what was expected of us. Hence why I'm searching KZbin for answers. I'm definitely going to share this with my classmates who were just as confused as I was.Once again a big THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!

I'm really liking your class! Will continue this to the end .... love the way you explain things. A poem is about "Feelings"... got it! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. You have a subscriber.

It is a good video with great analizing techniques in it. I did make notes and paused the video to participate the reflection process.

Kind of takes all the joy out of reading a poem. I have one step--what does this mean? I can ask it of the title, I can ask it of the words, I can ask it of the lines, I can ask it of the sounds, of the images, the rhythm, etc. Just read it. Read it aloud. Ponder on it. Of course you're right--familiarity helps. Helps to know all that stuff about alliteration, iambs, trochee, the meter, enjambment, metaphor, analogies, yes, that stuff does help, you'll discover it's indispensable, but read them! Read lots of them. Find one that seems to speak to you--THAT is the one you analyze. And I like your selection! Reminds me of a line from another poem, "F#$! poems and they're useful..." from Amiri Bakara, if I spelled his name right. Crude yes--but the same idea. Nice presentation. Good method to start with. You're giving them the instruments of torture--but maybe they will be able to eventually dispense with them and just read.

It "takes all the joy out of reading a poem" for those who already enjoy reading poetry. This video is meant for the rest, who may develop an appreciation for it thanks to these methods, although you seem to agree with this conclusion if I understood you correctly.

The purpose of the poem is to introduce audiance to the aliveness of the poem. How it can be:mysterios, exciting, fun, interesting, frightening etc. It is living creature having its own experience. We can almost see it, feel it , taste it. However, we are not able to experinence these feelings for ourselves, if we are searching only for the meaning-confession. we don't want to live with the poem, we overlook it, as we overlook many things in life, we don't enjoy it , we just want to see the end.

this will sound stupid but i interpret it as some people trying to overanalyze a poem and some people just like to read it for its simplicity of buetiful sounding words our literary device and they get frustrated when people try to find its meaning but it can mean whatever you want it to mean

my evidence for this ( testing probing walking inside it" the analysis side of it. ( but they want it to just say what it means directly so that their can be no argument about it
