Today we tackle one of the most annoying things in After Effects, the 3D camera. In particular, we will be doing a super sick map animation that greatly benefits from sexy camera movement, which is why we will also be doing a bit more of an advanced camera setup. The camera setup is way easier to use than the normal camera controls and can be used any time you are working with it.As always, thank you for watching!

@@mapal one request if possible. AE is getting really expensive so I’ve been trying to make the switch to Motion 5. I saw that you have a Mac so I was wondering if you could redo this in Motion 5. The camera setting are not the same as AE so I can’t seem to replicate it. If not, still watching all your videos as they provide great inspiration and principals.

If you'd like to have the same grainy effect on the boats without working a lot with various overlays, you may try to use Noise HLS Auto , mode : grain + camera lens blur applied to each particular object, with proper levels correction you'll have quite a decent result.

I've showed it in a good few videos. Add a solid with the colour 808080 -> Add 'Add Grain' Effect -> Final output + Kodak 800T preset -> size and softness to 1.3 -> Add 'Tint' effect - > Pre-comp and move all attributes to new comp -> blending mode to Overlay

Hi Mapal. Thanks so much for sharing that awesome tutorial. Just curious about the use of 4 nulls to control the camera. Why not just create a camera with just one "orbit null". When I do this, I can easily control P, and X,Y,Z except that I use the null Orientation's third parameter (instead of Z Rotation) to orbit around a POI.

You certainly can! I like splitting it up from an organisational perspective. Gives me a better overview and in some cases can allow for more control. Certainly not necessary in most instances though and your method will be more than sufficient

25fps is for Europe. I'm in the US so it makes more sense to use 24fps. It has to do with the Hz of lights. If you were to record actual video in the US using 25fps you'd probably get some weird flickers. Since all the motion graphics I make go in a video it makes the most sense to match the fps of the animations to the video!

I came here for the textures in the final render but you didn't show how you did that. :( I'm guessing it was noise track matte to the composition? because I can't see it in the brighter areas.

It’s a solid set to 808080 with add grain added to it and a tint, which is then pre composed and overlayed. I’ve shown the technique in a good few videos like the 3D text animation one. I’d check that one out for the specifics. Noise is (never should be) never seen in places that are truly white or black. Since there is no colour information in those areas. If you use the overlay blending mode you’ll get that result

I have no clue about pc specs really. Some effects are just heavy. Also make sure to clear your cache frequently

If it’s the actual exported render I couldn’t tell ya why. If it’s just the ram preview I’d try to lower the playback resolution, turn off unnecessary layers, and make sure to clear your cache

It looks fairly simple. Once you have all the different scenes setup you just want to match the pace of the camera push through/scaling of the layers. For some of them they use a shape as track matte too
