Great tips from Stephen on this topic as this is the most common and possibly the first question in an interview :)

Lmao, so to sum up: 1. Practice, but don't rehearse 2. Stay relaxed and keep it genuine/natural, but stay within 30-60 seconds 3. Don't make a script, but tell a story about yourself, and make sure that story fits with the company I see where you're coming from for some of these points but...this is the first time I've come across such vague, self-contradicting advice from this channel

It's a hard question to answer! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Tried to expand on these points to help provide clarity. 1. The goal of practicing is for it to feel natural as you share it. Like preparing for a test. But over-studying can cause you to stress out. And if you spend too much time going over the same answer for weeks beforehand, you'll lose the human touch interviewers want to see. 2. Practicing your answer can help you cut out all the fluff so you only share the most important points. Your interviewer wants you to feel comfortable talking with them, but in a 30 minute call with a recruiter, for example, you don't have a lot of time. That time is better spent talking about the role and responsibilities than a detailed run-down of every job you've ever had. Just like with resumes, keep to the KEY details of who you are and what you do rather than an exhaustive work summary. 3. Every company wants to know if you're a good fit for their culture. Some companies value meetings and hierarchical management styles. Others have a 4 day work week and value independent leadership. Your stories should match the tone of the culture of the place you're applying. As you write out a story about yourself to answer these common questions, try to remember who you're talking to. Plan out 2 or 3 bullet points for each story that align with the company you're applying to. If you once led the development of a new mobile app at your job, one interview might have you focusing on how you worked with teammates to get the job done. Another interview might ask the same question but this time you mention how you were quick to ship a beta version to start getting customer feedback right away (move fast and break things approach). It's important to not script/memorize this answer because if you do, your answer won't appeal to everyone. Instead, make some bullet points you can reference. You're not telling different stories, just the same story from different angles. Hope it helps!

Thanks for sharing, I agree with many of the tips you shared especially about being Authentic. I would differ with you on the 30 sec to 1 min part. Especially in this world of virtual interviews with limited one on one interaction. I would recommend going with 3 mins tops.

Hey I think you mentioned 5 tips in the beginning of your video but only specified 4 tips throughout the rest of the video. Just wanted to point that out but anyways great informative video. Thanks Stephen!

I don't think this video is as educational as most of your others. A lot of the other "Tell Me About Yourself" videos on KZbin are more practical.

Wish he actually gave examples of the concepts in his videos.
