Now try and be that smooth, without notes, at your first interview, in front of a panel of judges staring critically, deep into your soul, for the slightest signs of imperfection so that they can existentially crush your being with a single sweep of their freshly cracked red ball-point pen. Oh, and add a sprinkling of anxiety and depression to taste.

Awesome presentation! I actually can testify how effective an organized and well crafted answer to this specific kind of interview question when I encountered this countless times in my own interviews . I noticed also in my experience that when you include all the necessary information on the "tell me about yourself" question the next questions becomes less like two more questions only and then the interviewer wraps up and finishes the interview. It also helps to include a slogan at the end of your answer for example, "I am known in all the companies I've been to as the jack of all trades". This will help the interviewer to remember you as they do short listing because of that slogan you mentioned at the end of the interview.

This information is what I need to move on to a secular job. In my church, it has helped me to condense a way of answering questions and how to present, with only the important, valuable information. My question was, what and how do I answer questions that are precise, to the point, and will tell the important things the Lord has blessed me to do. Thank you for this information. I will visit this presentation again, and will probably recommend it to others.

Ive been asked this question before and I did exactly what you described on my first experience with it and got the job. BUT I think it's misleading and a little snake like. Some people may not answer it right because they will literally answer the question for what it is then lose a job offer because of that, then the person who does good on the interview and gets the job turns out not be that great at the job after all and needs to be fired or beats you to the punch and quits. Then your back at square one because you chose the candidate that answered all interview questions right. That's nonsense. If the question is pertaining to why your qualified for the job etc, etc, then that's how the question should be asked assholes.

It's not even a question. It's a command... and a command where you're not giving the candidate clear instructions. Whenever I have to work with anyone, I like to be able to understand clearly and easily what they are telling me to do. I have a very hard time working with anyone who is vague and where I'm constantly having to ask for an explanation to fathom out what they really mean. Clear communication is important for getting a job done correctly and makes the working environment less stressful.

Behaving corporately ("professionally" (kissing up to higher ups)) is absolute bullshit; here's why: 1. For a job application, it's required that the candidate researches the company (and never brings up failure during the interview) 2. Adjust the resume so that it best fits the advertised job's requirements. It becomes more laborious as the candidate gains more experience in the field 3. Obtain positive references (yes, they will call previous employers) 4. As such, applying (tailoring experience to requirements) may take any time between 20 to 40 minutes 5. Most HR staff are grossly incompetent (IQ in the double digit range) and only answer after 4 or 5 months; given that, on average, a resume for a software development/engineering position is at most one page long, and the number of applications is in between 200 and 400, a mentally deprived HR employee is unable to read more than 2.3 resumes a day (and sadly they get paid for it) 6. To top it off, most job applications aren't even read by these mush4brains Conclusion: Go freelance, live your own life as you see fit (never, ever live for the sake of someone else), forget about status (it's really not worth having a mansion and a bunch of luxury items if, maybe, only your great grandchildren will be able to pay the last installment).

This is an interesting take. I don't really agree with this video. I don't think one should overshare or give too much information, but I do not look favorably on prospective employees who only give me their professional side when I ask this question in an interview. I want to get a real glimpse of the person. I can look at their resume to get the type of information this video encourages them to share.
@Jobspeaker7 жыл бұрын
Agreed, we want the candidates personality to shine through. In this video we wanted to make sure they have a clear, well articulated answer from a professional career perspective to this question. I'm sure there are other ways in the interview to allow their personality to come out?

They key to an interview is to know what their going to ask and answer in the most professinal manner. Understand what your applying for and what they want to hear. Most of the time its just about then figuring out if you will work good on their team. Knowledge is pointless if you're a dull player.. unless you have above and beyound skills. Eticasy and your verbal communication and confidence is the most important aspect. Listen to their questions and regroup your answers in your head. Fake it till you make it.. just don't lie

If you want a specific type of answer, ask a specific type of question. " tell me about yourself" is probably the dumbest question to ask on their side of the table. They're looking for a candidate for the job, not for someone to possibly think they want a biography. I think professionally, if they are looking for a specific type of answer, they should be asking a specific type of question. My opinion.
