A piece of double stick carpet tape 1/2 the size of a postage stamp will do the trick. 5 turn uni snugged and apply with tension. When spooled check your work by squeezing the spool, it should be almost rock hard.

20-25 yards of monofilament backing tie a blood knot from the braid to the mono fill spool until 1/8 from the top of the reel spool bam no fuss.

I always back with Monofilament then braid. Have you found any issues with corrosion on the spool over time due to water being trapped under the tape? Also I never spool my conventional reels. Always bring them to a shop with a line winding machine. I spool my smaller spinning tackle myself. Love my Accurate reels your customer service is top notch. Really impressed me how quickly you all repaired my reel free of charge and had it back to me under a week! I've got a friend who owns 5 or 6 Avets and he's switching to Accurate off of my recommendation. He's had many issues with Avet and turn around on a repair is over a month!!!

We have seen no corrosion under the tape. Only time you see corrosion on spool is when finish has been scratched which will lead to problems. I have taped hundreds of reel spools with no effect. I did a video today on the basics of spooling a reels. Tape and a solid knot are the basis of the of the process. You need to have someone hold spool on leg with a towel so you can put line on as tight as possible. Its very easy once you do it.

@@freddiegonz4113 depends on the price. I have two Valiants that I think are the best lever drag reels on the market. I also paid almost $1900 for them. When you get into Avet Raptor price range and below it's a very different story.

I use a San Diego knot with extra tag end so the braid can bite on it self. No tape needed

hello Ben i just picked up a tern 500 star drag i think its the early model trying to get some specs on the reel for braid capacity i'm looking to put on 65 hollow core 16 strand at 34mm

That reel holds between 350 and 400 yds depending on Mfr. Plenty to cast a jig at foamers.

I do the exact same knot but there's just no way you can get that braid on tight enough like that to fish 15+ pounds of drag. Just not possible to me. I bought a Triangle Lindwinder used off BD some years ago and it's amazing how much pressure say 15-20lbs is when spooling. I paid about $900 for the used HD140 and I get that most recreational guys like me won't do that but then just take your reels to a shop and have them do it. You can also buy just the braking portion of a system for a few hundred dollars and reel the line in yourself but the on your leg trick is dangerous to me if you fish any significant drag.

I hear you. Personally I am doing alot of it on the line winder and it goes on good. After my first fish there is a slight difference but not enough for me to go super tight when winding. Have not been spool for a while so knock on wood. Have a great year and thanks for the feedback.

Did you know that on those kinds of reels there's a little hole you can thread the braided fishing line through so you can tie it in the center before you wind it up.
