How to Apply Decals to your Minis - A Step by Step Decals Tutorial

In this formerly Members-only video I'll show you how to apply decals to your models, step by step, using Tamiya Mark Fit Strong. With two different Horus Heresy dreadnoughts of mine as an example, we’ll look at the basics of decal application first, then at how to weather your decals, and finally we’ll see how to deal with particularly difficult ones, like very big Forgeworld transfers. Towards the end of the video, I will also discuss some of the most typical questions and misconceptions regarding decals.

So do you think Mark Fit Strong would be safe on acrylic paints if I give them a good gloss varnish cover before applying the Mark Fit Strong ? I got glossy polyurethane varnish from Vallejo... Thanks mate !

Hey Ekei, I believe so - I have used it before on acrylics without issues. Remember that that Vallejo varnish needs 48h to cure completely, though! (pretty good stuff, actually. If you haven't yet, try the Mecha line one).

Dude there's a much easier way to do this. Every step the same up to application soak the decal spread some water on the area transfer the decal to surface position it easily due to the water soak away the excess water leave to dry completely put a layer of your choice of decal softener on the decal leave for 30 seconds using a damp piece of paper towel press really hard on the decal sorted, it conforms to everything, dries the decal and removes the shiny layer from the decal in one hit. proceed with weathering etc with this method you don't even need a gloss coat, the pressure squeezes the decal down hard and so no air remains below the decal so no silvering or wrinkles or any associated flaws. It even works perfectly with ultramarine pauldron decals, one of the most annoying decals ever

Thanks, but that will most definitely NOT work with anything that has texture to it...and both dreadnoughts had actual rust (obviously with texture) applied to them.
