Thank you so much for this, just got back into modelling for the first time in 25 years, am a bit more picky about final finish now than I was when I was 15! Have been wondering how to get a pro finish. Thank you.

Thank you for a simple and informative video on how to use this stuff. I like strait forward and to point, and now I can get my decals to look how they should.

Thank you for making this video. I have had nothing but trouble with water transfer decals and I bought some solution and tried it out on some test pieces and it works perfectly.

Thanks for this, good demonstration and explanation, and it was concise. I feel ready for decals now.

@00sven00sven00 Usually not, it helps to set the decal on the model but if you are using decals with good adhesive on it, you don't usually need it. However, like if you print your own decal, I notice those decals don't have any adhesive on them so in that case, you would need the setting stuff.

I followed all the steps of your video, I used micro set and micro sol, on some decals over a airplane wing, which has groves. The decals dried and they did not went in the grooves, it has that "shinny" look, it looks like it´s air in the decal, what can I do to fix this? Thanks!

Great video man!! That was amazing info!! I am currently working on my first car in about 15 years that I am gonna use decals on...again. I used to HATED using decals...so we will see how this Micro-set and Micro-sol work. Looks like it will work great though. Thanks again for the video. I am subbed as of NOW!!!

Hey Chung...was wondering if you can use this method for decals that are in place now. I have an XWing that has decals that have dried up but not sticking well...advise?

Could you put a gloss coat on instead of a clear coat? And would that change the outlook of a matt coat on top? I'm making a messerchmitt bf109 so I need a matt finish but I want my decals to go on smoothly and well :/

Thanks for the video. I am planning to use Acrylic Enamel clear on my model before decaling. Decals will be a mix of included decals, and aftermarket printed stuff. When the decals are on, would you suggest going again on the Ac Enamel, or straight to the Testor's dullcoat (Laquer). I am most afraid of damaging my decals, or whiting out the clear. (everything but base coat is enamel brush paint).

Hi... I am having this big question. I am doing a rally car 1998 NZ WRC Corolla by Hasegawa. It has some decals on windows. I have been digging through online forums on whether I can apply clear coat on clear parts (such as the windows) without causing it to fog. If can what is the best way to do that? Thx for the reply. :) Note: I only have TS 13 Tamiya Clear Coat. I have been reading about Future floor wax, but I prefer to use my Tamiya Clear coat.

I'm doing a Gundam model.. I put the water slide decals on yesterday... They have stayed where I want.. Can I still put the sofener on them? Or does it have to be applied when the decal is put on?
@ThePicklepirate12 жыл бұрын
I've got a few questions about clear coating: 1. Do you put a clear coat on before you weather your model? 2. Do you put anything on after to dull the glossiness of the clear coat, or do you leave it? 3. What do you use to clean your airbrush after the clear coat is applied? I'm assuming that you use a acrylic protector like Future Floor polish.

Thanks for this video. I have a situation where I am applying a decal to a Transformer on an area that separates into 2 pieces. Therefore, the decal sits on 2 pieces and splits apart. At what point should I use an exacto knife to cut the decal? For example, before applying the Sol or after? Thanks!

@WGConsortium what about if I am going to apply a wash on top do I need to seal the decals with another gloss coat b4 I start?
@WGConsortium12 жыл бұрын
Is just sounds like bad or old decals and the adhesive is kaputz. Use micro set to put the decals on (it'll act like an adhesive) then use the Mocrosol to burn it into the surface of the model.

It seems like I have run into a few Model Cars where the decals seemed more old a brittle compared to some. But then again, being a novice it could just be me lol. So I think heading in the direction of setting solutions will be my best bet. Thank you for the video, this vid has seemed to be the best I have seen in my personal opinion. Wish me luck! ^.^

I am trying to apply some very small decals to the sides of an airplane for a 1/700 USS Lexington from Dragon models and they just don't seem to stick. I remove them from the sheet that they are on, right after they slide loose. When I try and apply them to the plane, they don't want to stick. Any suggestions? I do use Testors decal set but it doesn't work.
@200mcconnell9 жыл бұрын
Should I use decal solution because my decals won't stick on my model. It would come off the sheet but just won't do anything for hours. Would it help it stick?
@Aleksandar6ix12 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks. I'm gonna make sure my final clear is dried and cured before anything too...would be sad to screw it up then. I recently coated a model in laquer clear, and the paint, which had dried at least a day or two - only ONE of the enamel colours I used reacted badly - the rest were fine. :( Any ideas on that one?

if your putting amtrak stripes on a model passenger train, and do these same steps. would it be easier to cut the decal around the windows?
@SMConsortium10 жыл бұрын
MegaChallanger I'd cut them out ahead of time or at least "score" the decal sheet so the "window" parts will just rub off.

Hi, firstly thanks for the videos, very helpful! i have been modeling for years but still pick up handy tips from your videos!! What are your thoughts about dry transfer decals? I wargame with modern vehicles and figures, i am building a Russian army and need number decals for my armor, the only modern russian decals i can find are the MIG productions dry transfer sets. Do dry transfer look as good as traditional decals and if not are there any tips to make them look AMAZING?? Thanks bro Al

You know, that I don't know. I tend to use it all up pretty quick. I can only suggest asking the manufacturer about that.

1. Yes. I usually do. Mostly with a gloss coat as I can sometimes wash off mistakes. 2. When I'm done with the model, I usually apply a coat of Matte. I don't like gloss models unless they are suppose to be like a new car. 3. Either Windex (though people argue you shouldn't) or airbrush cleaner like the Badger brand or the Iwata brand. 4. Yeh all finished are acrylic.

I just sealed the decals with a gloss coat and i realize that my decals was in the wrong place. How can i remove the decals? Would painting the decals a good idea to conceal them?
@migueldelacruz10918 жыл бұрын
napadaan lang. I'm sorry Sir, no way for remove the decal, when is in the wrong place, the only solution maybe sanding the wrong decal zone, repaint and apply a new decal. Don't give up. Cheers
@SMConsortium7 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much too late at this point. You can try and use some kind of solvent and eat the varnish to the decal but that'll be tricky. For me, I'd just paint over it as a fix.
@MenniePlay12 жыл бұрын
Mr. Mark Softer or Tamiya Mark Fit is the same.
@WGConsortium12 жыл бұрын
Either way should work. You're just putting on more layers of protection if you do that. As always make sure the decals are completely dried and cured.
@WGConsortium12 жыл бұрын
A gloss coat is a clear coat (so is satin and matte) :) Just put down the gloss coat before putting on decals, then spray a matte coat over it when you're done. Just make sure the decals are cured before doing that.
