Info from technical white paper on epoxy grout. When cleaning the grouted floor, be sure to use plenty of cold water (to prevent quick set up) mixed with a few drops of Dawn dish soap. It is critical to remove all haze immediately. Dawn works well because it contains surfactants that have an affinity to the epoxy resident contained in both the epoxy and the water used to clean up the haze. This allows the haze to bond with the water and wash away easily with a cleanup sponge and microfiber towel. It is extremely difficult to remove haze otherwise. The grout cures unlike cement grout, which can be adversely affected by using too much water. You cannot use too much of this soapy solution cleaning epoxy grout.

Used your video to relieve some of my stress for doing my frist grout, which was an epoxy grout. I was really nervous cause the guys at the shop said it was really hard. There was a plan A and a plan B and so much prep and hard work, even had a partner to hand me things like a physician. Then I began. Added the grout and then BAM. All plans out the window and worked faster than I ever have. This stuff doesn't want to spread and really doesn't come of with the sponge very easily. In the end though, success! With how easy you made this look, I know you are a pro!

Not necessary wetting the floor... If you use a power saw to cut cement board (Durock or Hardie Backer) the dust will clog pores. Hardie backer has dust on it from the factory. A wet mixed thinset can help resolve this problem, (wet mortar causes problems on walls.) Not much experience with epoxy as a mortar, but i know the surface needs to be dry.

"To minimize epoxy haze, wipe the tile down with a solution of water and a few drops of Dawn® dish soap prior to grouting. This solution acts as a grout release to help prevent resin from sticking to dry tile, thereby making it easier to fill the grout joints and minimizing the residue on the face of the tile. The use of a microfiber towel to remove the final grout film during clean-up will greatly reduce the amount of haze. "

If you google epoxy grout dish soap you will find a technical white paper put out by custom building products. The file name is "epoxy_grout_wp102.pdf". They specifically talk about using Dawn as a release agent. Plus some tips on extending pot life. (freezer, small clumps etc) Don't get too stuck in the weeds about epoxy grout bonding if its a new tile job. You are basically packing glue that turns into a rock in your grout lines. If you are regrouting with some tiny thin grout lines then you might have issues and need to be a bit more judicious with the soap. Do NOT let the water just dry on your tile. They glue remnants are suspended in the water. Go buy a pack of paper towels and dry it off. Your tile should feel like a brand new tile. If it doesnt then rewash and rewash until it does. You cant overwater an epoxy grout joint. Just be careful of scrubbing the lines, they will stay soft and you can damage them. I am not a professional just someone who has used it before and seen the pitfalls and found solutions (read: others solutions on the web) that worked.

From a professional. Skip the pour soap directly on tile. Soap mixed with epoxy is a terrible idea. If that was the case they would have a part a part C. LOL Try putting the smaller epoxy bucket in a larger bucket of ice next time. Doubles if not triples working time and clean up is the same finishing with a drag of wet micro cloth dipped in soapy water. Much Much larger areas can be done and you don't have to rush. You might be better asking the stone manufacturer or contacting the manufacturer of the grout you choose

@@zarasbubble1748 Thank you! We ended up sealing just the tops of the stone with a tile sealant and epoxy grouted over them when the sealant dried, came out great, no stains :)

Enjoyed your video...I just bought a house, previous owner hired out full bath reno...ive noticed a few subway tiles in shower totally missing grout...obviously water plus no grout = bad...should i mix up some epoxy grout and push in? I dont want to rip & replace...thanks!!

That will work but it will look different if the wall is not epoxy right now. best to match it if they used unsanded or regrout the whole shower. !

I ran into some 9x9 old tiles surprisingly in great shape. No cracks and no wear. Can I seal this area with epoxy just incase these tiles are VAT?
