The instructions for use come with Estrogel.. and it reads: Do not massage or rub in EstroGel. Spread the gel as thinly as possible over the entire area on the inside and outside of your arm from your wrist to your shoulder.

You might need progesterone and testosterone too. Doctor are totally inept when it comes to understanding and treating menopause. At peri menopause I developed horrid morning hours diarrhea for 2 months then periods of weeks of diarrhea off and on but even when it wasn’t coming for hours I never again had a firm stool. Always a pile of mush. Got on progesterone/estrogen and it cured me. I’ve added testosterone and even better. My testosterone was at zero. That can’t be good. Doctors are insane to think that is healthy for a woman. If it were themselves they wouldn’t hesitate to treat.

Presume you’ve had a reply by now. Quantity & how you take it depends on wether your peri or post menopausal. If your post meno you take x1 each night at bedtime. If peri, you take x2 for 2weeks then have a break for x2 weeks. (To keep it simple) this allows you to have a cycle still).

I have been applying directly to the lower inner arm from the container and then rubbing both arms together to gently spread out to a thin film. This has the benefit of not contacting your hands at all and so no gel has to be washed away.

I started HRT 4yrs ago, patches didn’t work then founds gel was better but it’s been hit and miss trying to get the best place for good absorbtion. Arms didn’t work, outer thighs didn’t work but buttocks and inner thighs so much better and rubbing it in lightly for me works! 2 x pumps at night and 2 pumps after morning shower. Sadly trying to get off antidepressants as prescribed in perimenopause has been causing me problems, I really believe it has interfered with the HRT and every 6 months I get terrible depression and anxiety back, which has caused me to give up work. Trying to ween off these things is a nightmare!

Hi Davina, and Dr Louise Newson, thanks for all the work you are doing around menopause. You’re fabulous! Just wanted to bring some awareness of my dopey Dora moment using HRT as I wanted to prevent anyone else making the same mistake. I was prescribed HRT patches (Evorel Sequi) and was advised by the doctor, there are 2 hormones in the patches, change them twice a week and alternate legs. On collection the pharmacist advised the same. Being an eager beaver I started using the patches. Unfortunately, it didn’t start well and I was all over the place emotionally/physically but stuck (no pun intended 🤪) to them as I read HRT takes a while to kick in and settle. And to be fair I did have moments of my old self coming back. Anyway fast forward to this year I started feeling worse then I did before taking HRT. I felt really desperate and overwhelmed again and thought sod this!! However, I thought I’d solider on and stick to them (.. gosh I’m so funny) But then as I was changing my patch one day I read the name on the individually wrapped patches and noticed they were different. I then took out all the patches in an unopened box and found it contained 8 patches in total, 4 Progesterone Patches and 4 oestrogen Patches. So I read the the leaflet PROPERLY and realised I had been applying the patches in no order which was probably why I felt the way I did i.e. too much oestrogen. Having read the advice on the leaflet, I took the patch off and made an appointment with my doctor to discuss next steps. The doctor went through how to use them correctly and I decided to give them another try. Fortunately after a few weeks I’m coming back to life and feel so much better and I’m hopeful it will continue. I was at fault as I didn’t read through the leaflet, though I think the instructions should be explained by doctors and pharmacists emphasising the importance of using HRT correctly, especially if it needs to be applied in a particular order. And of course to read the instructions ourself too. I hope this helps someone. Long may all of us perimenopausal and menopausal women reign… WE’VE GOT THIS !!

note that this only applies if you use the gel to treat menopausal symptoms. if you're MtF and use the gel for transitioning, don't rub it in, and smaller areas of application are better. also don't use your outer arm, use the inside of your arm or thighs

That’s wrong, girls. Don’t do that way. I’m a trans girl and we too use estradiol gels and we do frequent testings so we research very carefully pros and cons of every hormonal product and its usage. So you take gel which should be preferably stored in a pretty cool place so it’s not becoming liquidy mess and squeeze the gel (a pump) on your inner thigh (probably the best location). You gently make a thin layer with it using your two fingers. The area you cover should not be bigger than a size of your palm or a bit bigger than an average smartphone. Don’t rub, just form a thin layer of gel of the size I mentioned above with that pump of gel. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes (scroll your smartphone meanwhile) and put your clothes on.

I press out the gel on my actual leg or arm any area (I don't use palm of hand), then rub in using the other leg or arm area to maximise coverage area. But I only do one pump. If I do more than one pump I get a heartburn feeling which isn't very nice but a known side effect of oestrogen I gather. I take one Utrogestan (progesterone) at bedtime too which is amazing how it helps me sleep. Online I've also bought very low dose DHEA (I cut the 10mg tablet into quarters with a pill cutter so that I only take approx 2.5mg a few times a week to helps with testosterone in order to feel a bit more energised, motivated and less sluggish.

The new pump should actually be prepared by pressing the plunger down until the gel comes out, and then discard the first dose of gel. After that it's ready to use.

So the gel doesn’t touch your breasts. The gel is not to go anywhere near the breasts, so if you put the gel on your inner arm, it could rub onto your breasts? Also the gel can rub off onto your clothes and not get a chance to absorb?

@@suzannel2414 thats not really how it works. every cell in the human body, either male or female, has receptors for all hormones, however, transgender people transitioning from male to female usually require higher doses to achieve normal female levels and therefor develop adequate secondary female sex characteristics

I’m so confused! Just been prescribed this and not clear from leaflet at all. I thought you needed to rotate arms the way you would with patches. So it’s ok to use in same place? I just started and have 3 pumps so alternating between legs and arms. 2 on one arm/leg and one on other. Now I’m thinking should just do both arms and one leg and not worry about rotating? Arms are fine but feels very sticky on inner thigh.

I’ve been rubbing it in inner thigh and buttocks. I feel best results are my buttocks as it really absorbs there better. Plus there’s less hair follicles which also aids absorption.

Please remember the name of the poster dear AMAB and MzF. This tipps are made for menopausal women as they need low and more constant levels as support dor their own estradiol production. MzF and AMAB need another application routine as they want higher but stable levels. That's why menopausal women take this gel mostly just 1 time a day while other women need 2 times.

This is in clear contradiction to the manufacturers direction. They say NOT to rub it in but apply a thin layer over the whole arm. I suspect this is to provide a more gradual regulated release rather than causing a higher spike dosage. I am not a Dr however I am Transgender and have been using this for about 6 months.

Have you had any negative experience using this method and have you developed any skin problems such as rashes or infections,can you only apply body lotion after and hour of application.If you don't mind, have you started to notice any changes or development from the hormones e.g breast growth and does it have the same effect as other common methods such as injections or is it slower at producing results. Also do you need to wash off the previous layer from earlier in the morning before applying another layer layer in the evening and do you have to wash you hands and area of application before applying. @@ndeapoitana559 I started my HRT using Progynova and used that for about 12 months so most of the changes occurred while taking pills. I switched to Estrogel only because is the only thing I can obtain reliably. My endo started me on 3 pumps a day and I have just started on 4 pumps as my levels were a little low. I do not use any moisturiser on my arms and have not had any rashes or side affects. I have been on HRT for 2 years in total. When I first started using Estrogle I rubbed it in and then as I started using more I re read the instructions and saw the method they say to use. I have not noticed any difference no matter if I rub it in or spread it thinly. Stay well :-)

Instructions from the Oestrogel leaflet: Preparing your new Pump Pack Before using your new Pump Pack for the first time, you need to prepare it for use as follows: Remove the cap from the canister. Press the plunger down a few times until the gel comes out. Do not use this first dose of gel from your Pump Pack. This dose should be discarded. Your Pump Pack is now ready to use. How much to use and when to use Apply the gel once a day, either in the morning or evening. Try to use the gel at about the same time each day. Your doctor will prescribe the lowest dose for the shortest time to treat your symptoms. One pump is equal to one measure The usual daily dose is 2 measures (i.e. 2 pumps) of gel. The Pump Pack will last four weeks. If 4 measures (i.e. 4 pumps) of gel have been prescribed, the Pump Pack will last two weeks. Spread the gel on a large area of skin on each shoulder, outer arm or each mid-inner thigh. How to apply the gel 1. Make sure that your hands and the skin where you are going to apply the gel are clean, dry and unbroken. 2. Remove the canister cap to reveal the plunger. 3. Hold the Oestrogel Pump Pack in one hand and place your other hand under the spout, ready to collect the gel. 4. Push the plunger down firmly. This will dispense one measure of the gel. 5. Apply the gel to either: the outer arm and shoulder of both arms, or the mid-inner thigh of both legs.

I use estrogel, 3 pumps a day, and have been using it for a couple of moths. My biggest and pretty much the only side effect is water retention. I really really hate how puffy it makes me look. It gets better after about 12 hours as the estrogel wears off, but I also start to feel the dip. Does the water retention ever go away? Is my body still getting used to it? I turn on my hot tap so that I’ve running water at the ready. Then I pump gel on each upper arm, put the bottle down, rub the gel in, and then wash my hands. Here she’s handling the bottle with gel on her hands 🤷🏼‍♀️. I then do my morning facial routine while waiting for the gel to dry before getting dressed.

There is a water shortage ! Please don't leave water running, it's not necessary. If a time comes when water has to be rationed you will not be able to do this. A little bit of gel on the bottle or taps is not going to harm x

In addition to the leaflet saying not to rub in, the comment about ‘if you were to sunbathe, wait an hour before applying suncream’ Sunbathing isn’t something any medical professional should be encouraging due to risk of skin cancer.

Does this help with absorption? I've been applying as per instructions, thin layer and let dry, and I feel I'm not absorbing much.

The instructions with it are ridiculous as I was doing the same. I ally one pump to each arm, sometimes inner thighs and rub it in until it's almost dry. I feel a lot better now.

I'm mtf transgender I inject 1mililiter every 5days. I'm OK with the injections but was wondering if the additional gel would be OK with my doctor I will ask of course. I hope he goes for it. So now I apologize to everyone my mistake!!! It's just that I'm in such a big hurry to completely change!!! I'm 66yrs young and started H.R.T 12 22 2020 and I'm still researching but thanks again sugar!!! And if anyone is interested touch my picture to the left.

The instructions say clearly to NOT rub in or massage the gel but to spread from wrist to Shoulder and wait for it to dry. Why is she rubbing it in????

Doctor advised not to rub them completely and thoroughly.. just apply or mildly rub on elbow and above region of the hand or knee and above region of inner thighs. Not near vagina or breast. Let it dry for 3 to 4 mins and get dressed. Wash ur hands properly after application.

And you’re exposing everyone who comes near you with your hormones. My dogs lost their hair and became incontinent from an estrogen overdose. I have switched to injections and we’re all doing well. My dog’s hair is growing back! 🙏🏻
