I bought a different brand but the guy at Wickes was EXTREMELY helpful. However I always like to watch videos as I am a beginner woodworker. I was looking for some plastic fabric to cover the join at the top of the roof of the birdhouse I have been building for my father but could not find anythign suitable. Today I found this and this video was INDESPENSIBLE! Incredibly easy to apply. I'm WELL Chuffed! ty :D

Not just roofing, I once used this to seal a hole in a bucket. Patched it with flashing tape used heat gun to seal the edges and I've got a working bucket again 😂

Hi great video. Can you advise me i didnt wait for the primer to dry up and stuck the flashband on top straight after applying the primer. Does this mean the flashband would not have stuck. I cant check as it is a rented home.

What you you think of people using a heat gun? When I tried it, the bitumen seemed to become completely liquid under the outer skin of the tape. I was worried I was making thin spots as I pressed the tape down after heating.

Anyone know if you need to put primer on top of the suggested additional mastic or if that product is already adhesive enough to attach the flashband directly to it?

@bostikuk at 00:19 you mention corrugated roofs, but is there a video of this in action? I can't see how the flashband would conform to the shape.

I was planning to use this on a small leaking part where my flat roof meets the wall. My question is, in the next couple of years, when we get a new flat roof - will this leave a real mess on the brickwork?

If you use the primer then that will stay where you paint it but could Prob a my be covered up when they fit the new seal from flat roof to wall when they do the new one

I am not a roofer but this does seem like a good product. But looking at how they use lead for flashing... lead looks the best choice overall to my layman eyes.

In the video, the numpty installer cuts the flashband on the felt roof with, as recommended, a 'sharp knife'....thereby demonstrating how to put a slit in the roofing felt, and of course the need for more Flashband....

Have you any idea how much pressure is used on a knife to cut flashband compared to cutting roof felt ? He wouldn’t cut through it .

I tried sticking 300mm flashband to OSB and there was no adhesion. The wood was dry and dust free. Any suggestions as I've already wasted 1 metre and it's not cheap. Thanks.

What about using a heat gun to soften the bitumen?
@Rajjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
@Rajjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj 11 ай бұрын
You need to regulate the heat. I used an old steam iron to heat and flatten the band. The patch was on old deteriorating roof membrane that was quite porous and literally powdery. Yet the patch held on.

Hairhair dryer on full heat, heat guns a bit aggressive, if it's a warm sunny day the heat of the sun should be enough.

I followed the instructions on a nice warm weekend. Applied primer first and waited to dry. Put on flashband and used roller to make sure applied. A few hours later it had fallen off. It is just glorified sticky tape. Which I doubt would last long in the rain. A waste of time.

Why give a negative review of a product when it was more than likely your fault it didn't work properly??? You say you followed the directions, well obviously you did something wrong. Hundreds of installations with no problems then you have a problem with yours. That tells us that you were the problem, not the product.

How would I put this on a pebble dash wall? Is there another product to use?
@BostikUK
@BostikUK Жыл бұрын
Hi Cathal. Flashband wouldn't be suitable for a pebble dash wall due to the gaps making an uneven surface. You could use our Penetration Primer with Flexacryl, but it would depend on the type of application. If you wanted to discuss more specific details you can contact our technical support team: technical.service@bostik.com

Hello sir i was wondering. I use the flashband in my roof but there’s a process that i need to use silicone sealant and then i put the flashband but i notice on the box that there’s an instruction like this ‘Flashband is bituminous and must not come into contact with silicone sealant’. I was wondering what will happen?

A well known Lincolnshire Conservatory co. Used flashband on our conservatory 15years ago, at the time I was away from home and thought they were using lead , unfortunately I couldn’t get them to change it on my return. The flashband is still there (touchwood) with no problems.
