Tier 1 is like a retirement plan where in you can opt with a minimum of 500 rs, There should be a mandate payment every year for this plan and you cannot skip it. After your retirement you can withdraw around 60 percent of what you have accumulated and remaining 40 will be used like a pension for you. Where Tier 2 is an additional saving plan for yoy with no lock in period, u can withdraw it anytime and also u can skip payments, a min of 1000rs is needed first time. Also to be a member of tier 2 plan you must be a member of tier 1 plan. So basically should opt for tier 1 always and tier 2 is optional
