Thank you for the info! In the state of Texas, when you apply for your license with the BON, it is $100 and then an extra $50 if you want prescriptive authority. For the collaborative agreement, it is just between you and your supervising physician as to what "he" will allow you to do either by state rules or if it is more restrictive. Dana

Hi all! So I am about to graduate with my PMHNP in California at the end of this month. I am really confused about the process it takes for me to get my PMHNP in California. Some have told me I can get my NPI number now (before I take my ANCC), and then I am reading online I have to get a furnishing number as well. Are these the same or different? I feel dumbb haha but its hard to sift through all these articles and the BRN documents are long and confusing too. Whats the processing time/timeline between passing my ANCC, then applying for my NP with the BRN? Should I apply for furnishing before or after the ANCC test? Or do I have to wait to apply for furnishing until BRN gets back to me regarding my NP. If you can send me any information on this order of steps, or how a recent grad did all these steps could you please let me know. Any advice/recommendations is appreciated. Thank you! 🙂

My state requires a collaborative agreement from the collaborating physician working with me. Also, they need a QA plan and a comprehensive description of the work conditions. The physician then must send the application and fee to the medical examiner's office before I apply for licensure. If I turn the application and payment in before my collaborating MD provides those, I need to fulfill all other requirements. If the conditions aren't finalized before the board's quarterly meeting, I will lose my fee, and the board will reject the application.

Just an FYI to any NPs trying to apply for your DEA license in TX: You must have a supervising physician register with the Texas Medical Board first. This would mean you would need to have a job lined up first. And with this being said, you cannot use your home address as your practice address (unless that is your actual practice location). I just got 2 emails re all this from the DEA after I paid and applied. I'm hoping I didn't just flush my $888 down the drain

I had to reapply when I finally got a supervising physician and pay a new fee (luckily my employer covered the fee this second time around). I wasn't sure how all this was supposed to work because I moved to TX from IL and it seems like every state does it differently

So I went ahead and started the process, paid, submitted, etc. I also got the follow up email about practice address..only I don't have a NP job just yet. @anthonyvelez5173 I think I ended up just putting whatever address I was currently working at (RN job) .. but it was a while ago and my brain has been saturated with new NP role things so I don't quite remember. If you already have a NP job, or job offer at least, put that. Hope that helps.. good luck!

Hello, she said in the video to put your home address and later you can circle back after you get a job and update it to your job address. That’s because it’s public information so you don’t want to leave your home address on there permanently. Also my professor told me that is how it’s done. Many employers require the DEA before hiring you.

I am living proof that this is what you do. I am now licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in 3 states. Iowa, Florida, and now New Jersey. (I got my New Jersey license yesterday as a matter fact). I was speaking with someone from the New Jersey board and they confirmed that I could use my home address for now when applying for my CDS, and DEA. Florida required a Florida address. So I used my aunt‘s address because she lives in Florida. But it’s her home address, it’s not a business address. This will enable me to do telehealth from states other than where I live. There are many jobs now advertising for clinicians who are licensed in multiple states. And I got my Florida license and DEA within two weeks of applying. That is what you do. Use your home address. Many people nowadays are doing telehealth so they don’t even have a business address.

@@learningasigo1269 DEA regulations do not prohibit individual and mid-level practitioners from using their home address. However, if an individual practitioner or mid-level practitioner does choose to use their home address as a principal place of business or professional practice, the location becomes a "controlled premises" and is subject to unannounced inspections and administrative warrants under existing DEA regulations. See 21 CFR 1316.01-1316.13. An individual practitioner or mid-level practitioner whose DEA-registered location is a home must comply with the established recordkeeping requirements (see 21 CFR 1304 and 1305) and security requirements. See 21 CFR 1301.71, 1301.75 - 1301.76. If they decide to audit you or your aunt and you don't have the appropriate documentation, it would be a federal offense. I wouldn't risk it.
