I watched this video when i dismantled my 4x4 Manual Gearbox and Transfer case on my NT Pajero and with four sections to be joined back together with silicone only, and because they dont make gaskets for these parts i found this video to be the answer as to how to use this stuff without getting it inside the transmission as has happened to me in the past and caused other issues so knowing this info about using silicone really is fantastic and it worked a treat for me with no oil leaks.P/S Sorry this post of mine is not bike related .

I'm an computer overclocker and I've always used the dab technique for applying for applying thermal paste and have done a lot of experimenting with application and how they effect heat transfer and if they leave dry spots and that's what people end up messing up like you showed exactly why people can't get over this myth about how much to use and end up killing their CPU performance. You explain everything so well. I know that was random but I'm watching everything on your channel. This is gold. I'm planing to revive a Suzuki gs650g that took a fall and has sat 7 years. Your channel has helped me so much brother. Thanks for keeping the skills alive

just thought I'd mention that the Honda Master Certified Technician courses shows people to use the dab or "peaking" method of using sealant. I saw guys who'd been doing the job for 20 years just facepalm and ask why they hadn't thought of it.very glad to see it being taught to the new generation of techs.

Thank you so much for commenting. Would you by chance know what section or part of the Honda certification? That's fantastic to know I'm going to look into it. With that being said it's surprises me so much have very few people know anything about it.

+Shane Conley I've never found it any of the manuals, and I've still got a copy of the Common Service Manual under my bench right now. It was shown to me by the national training coordinator for Honda MPE in Australia. since then, I've been telling all the apprentices about it.

It's a very old method but this is the first time I've seen it on video. My ancient Britbike mechanic mentor says he first learned it using Hylomar when he worked recip aircraft engines.

3.4.16. I owned a 1989 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 2.3L 4 cylinder 5 speed. At about 112k miles the truck started to lose oil pressure as the engine RPM increased as I went threw the gears! I would back off the accelerator, & the oil pressure would go back up to normal!.......It turned out that Ford went cheap with dedicated gaskets, and went for the RTV to speed assembly & save coin, and the excess RTV broke free and plugged the oil pump pickup screen almost entirely! I stopped running the truck & bought a new oil pump & after the oil pan was pulled, I found out why the oil pressure was ass backwards in respect to RPM!......I owned the truck for 22.5yrs & 258k miles before I sold it. I live in Michigan, so it was rusted out but the engine ran sweet!.....🔧😎

Hey shane, you probably already do this but ill say it anyways ha ha with the tube of sealant instead of cutting of the nozzle to get to the uncured sealant just squeeze a ball of sealant out the end of the tube after use and let it cure then next time you come to use it you can just pull out the cured sealant with your fingers and away you go no more cutting the tapered nozzle till its to big to use.

Good instruction, as usual. I’ve always used this method, purely self taught. It just seemed logical. I prefer Hylomar or Threebond to the Permatex products. Their “Hylomar like” product is nowhere near as good.

For the RMZ250 2008 it calls for a small dab of sealant on top of the crankcase seam where the cylinder comes on. It doesn’t call for any sealant on the gasket for the case halves. What’s your take on using sealant on the crank case halves along with the gasket?

As you can see from the slow response, it takes us forever to screen all these requests. 300-400 a week just in emails and 1000’s of comments! FYI members get answered daily first! Best $1.99 you’ll spend! 😁 That’s a great question for Shane directly! We are just the social media team. Shane does answer questions when he get's back around to non members eventually so hang tight, FYI >>>> he does member ones daily! He just returned from overseas training techs and his inbox is slammed with requests. He is scheduling time each day again to answer techline orders. He does not have the bandwidth to provide free email replies as his schedule is full with shop customers, training schedules, and one on ones. There's good news though! Shane has 2 solutions for you. One is a deep dive one-on-one with him with video, email and phone support. The other is a "quick fan support" option when it's a quick answer and just helps support the time for him to stop wrenching or training and get you in the direction that a free video had you close. Links to each are below. Hope this message makes sense to you as a decent human being that also works for a living and gets it! Make it a great day! The one-on-one service.
