Well - I'm astounded that Tamiya expect ordinary mortals to be able to do this. Goodness knows how you summoned sufficient patience, eyesight and steadiness of hand to even cut the stickers out, let alone apply them so flawlessly! Thank you for letting us know how essential a heat gun can be to do this job properly.

Hello Del! Great to read you as always. I know what you mean, if someone bought this as a first kit, they would never buy another one after trying to detail that body!!! It really is that difficult, it really pushed my skills to the limit. I was determined to get this one right, after all, I was intending to showcase it on KZbin! Thanks for the kind words. Yes, without some heat, this really would have been "Mission Impossible". Take care, mate. :O)

Mark, amazing job! I'm speechless while watching. I love that you use a combo of tools (Q-tip, burnishing tool, etc.) to get the job done. This is the most complicated sticker work I've seen, I gotta build at least 10 more Tamiya kits to work my way up to this haha. Incredible video, thanks for taking the time to film all of this intricate and challenging work. 🙏👍

Really love the level of detail you go into when doing decals Mark. I was shi#@ing it doing the xv-01.. But thanks to your video on it i made it and apart from a couple of small errors ( due to not having a heat gun) it came out really well. Since then i got a heat gun and have done several rally/touring cars now and it's become the favourite part of a build for me now. There's a real sence of accomplishment isn't there when you sit back and look at a completed shell.

Hi Mark, thanks for the great comment. Oh yes, I know what you mean about the trepidation before a sticker job - I'm the same! Great to hear that the videos have been of some help, it makes it all worth the effort for me. As you can imagine, it's even harder to do the bodywork and film it at the same time, trying to keep the body in-shot and my fat head out of shot!!! Good news about the heat gun, it really helps, doesn't it? So cool that you enjoy the bodywork side of the build so much. You summed it up at the end, a definite feeling of accomplishment and a beautiful car to behold when it's all finished! All the best, take care! :O)

Hiya Mark. Oh wow I remember you saying what a task this was but I had no idea how complicated it was. I must say that I've never used extra heat to get the stickers around curves but I did buy the Lancia Delta kit so I think I might need to. Presumably you don't want it too hot or the stickers will shrivel away to nothing? Anyway a masterclass of sticker sticking from your good self here. Have you got much going on for the weekend? I will hopefully get out for a bit of RC and also I need to install another shelf in the man cave to accommodate the growing RC collection. For now I'm just watching KZbin with a beer. Cheers for now matey 😁🍺🍺🍺
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete - oh yeah, I don't think I stressed how difficult it really was. There is no way those stickers would conform without heat, and you will certainly need some coercion for those Lancia stickers, too! I find that a standard hairdryer provides enough heat and never gets too hot, so better than a heat gun that can blow way too hot for these stickers. A very quiet weekend for me, I'm on new meds from the doctor and they have wiped me out! I might be able to do a little editing tomorrow. Thanks for the message, have a great weekend, matey! :O)

Sublime work my friend, that looked like a total nightmare - not only in applying the stickers but in lining them up beforehand like a jigsaw puzzle. Over 136 too ! It's just a matter of patience I suppose and lots of it. I think what keeps people going with this kind of stuff is knowing that you'll have a masterpiece to admire forever once all the tedious work is complete. In regard to those stickers that needed heat to get them to fit in the recesses, waterslide decals would have been easier to use, although they wouldn't be anywhere near as resilient. As always, you leave me in awe with your skills with these shells. A top, top job. This is going to be a stunning RC to see in action. Take care mate and have a good week ahead...👍🏻🙂👍🏻.

Hello my good friend! Oh yes, this really did tax me and took soooo long to complete! It really gave me a headache working out how the stickers should fit together, it's like a massive 3D jigsaw puzzle! I agree that waterslide decals would make the job a lot easier, being so thin and easy to conform. But yeah, very easy to damage! I'm really pleased with the outcome and it does look good in motion, I haven't got much footage as I'm still struggling with health issues, but I have a couple of minutes worth to upload soon. Hi Mark. I've been waiting for this video, thanks for taking time to record and post it here. Of course, your work is amazing. In fact, your GT looks better (much better, actually) than the one posted on Tamiya's own website. Perhaps Tamiya should hire you to finish their new RC's. You've built a lot of RC's, can you remember a more challenging body to detail or one with a higher total sticker count?

Hi there. Many thanks to you for watching and leaving such a nice comment! Hehe, I wish Tamiya would hire me, it would be a dream job for me! Yes, I have done many RC bodies in my time, but I think this one really has been the most taxing. The Lancia Delta was awkward, but the Mitsubishi Lancer Dakar Rally Raid car was even worse, but neither was a patch on the Ford GT, which also has the most stickers, I believe. Thanks, James! Yeah, this certainly tried my patience! As for the Pearl white, yes, I used standard white and then silver to back it, works a treat. I agree, the wheels are a bit boring, I might look at some alternatives in the future. Already filmed the first run, editing as we speak! All the best, cheers! :O)

That's a very impressive looking body but that sticker set would give me nightmares. If I were to buy this kit I'd be looking at doing a custom paint job I think.

Hey Mark, how do you make the cut in the backing material to get a starting point (to reveal adhesive), without cutting through the decal itself?
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shane, all I do is cut each Decal out and then just peel a little bit of the decal away from the backing and snip off a little backing with a pair of scissors. It's as simple as that! Best wishes from Mark. 🙂

Sorry but would a hairdryer on warm instead of the lighter trick mark??
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
No worries, Paul! Yeah, I used a hairdryer for most of the stickers, as you can probably see in this video. However, for some of the really tight bends I found the lighter to work better, just gotta be VERY careful! :O)

Im not gonna lie I feel like it be better if you could put the stickers in the inside like a mask so the stickers dont get damaged because they are on the outside
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, and yes the stickers would be protected inside the shell. However, the adhesive would need to be on the coloured side of the sticker. It was hard enough to put these on the outside, I can't imagine being able to stick them neatly from the inside! Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

Dear lord can I send you my GT body and have you do my sticker work after I finish painting it 😅 Also, I have something called a cricut, have you heard of this machine? It can be used to auto cut out all of your stickers for you making a task like this significantly less daunting!

Hi Jacques. Hehe, I wish I had the time to do more sticker work, I really do enjoy it but it's so time consuming! That machine sounds very interesting, but no, I have never heard of it before. Could save a lot of time and effort! All the best, cheers! :)

Every time I watch these sticker applications by whomever some seem simple then others are hair pulling out frustrating.... The soapy water seems to help a lot just as the best gun you're using .. in some ways I'd like to personally try some liquid mask. Was going to buy some a little while ago but stores here were sold out.. I've got several bodies that are on my list to paint. Finally the liquid mask is back in stock.. going to try to avoid using any stickers. Although the Porsche le man's body will definitely need stickers (advertising brands ) .. Edit.... P.s.. can say I'm not sure I would have had the car finished as good sticker wise as you have.
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for the interesting comment! Hmm, liquid mask? I've never used that stuff, but my friend uses it with good effect. I think it's a good idea to use paint instead of stickers if the paint job and colour scheme of the body is suitable. But yeah, sometimes the livery needs stickers, as you say, to replicate detailed lettering etc. I hope the liquid mask works out good for you. All the best from Mark... :O)
