lol I'm just going to keep replying as things pop into my mind. This year city we had around 500 applicants!! So make sure you've got everything you can possibly think of that has been genuine help towards helping you decide SLT is for you, because it's suuuuuuuuuuper competitive. I had all my interviews over Zoom and had lots of people interviewing me throughout all of them. Best of luck!

@mistyheavens x not too complex, but you've really got to work for it. Grades are important but you need to show you have experience and are compassionate. I focused on what experience I had. I've shadowed, worked in schools, worked with disabled students etc. Get all the experience you can because that's what carried all my interviews. There's no way I can list it all. My degree is in English Language and I centred my dissertation around stroke care and aphasia, so the combination of my course and my experience is what got me in. Your passion for the subject will come through by how hard you work for it. UCL interview was more centred around the theoretical side of SLT whereas city was more about the role and how you are professional and responsible which is why I liked them more! My interests lie with caring for patients and clients and that's not something you can fake! Best of luck and apply for all the experience you can. x

@mistyheavens x I'm doing the Master's programme so you don't go through UCAS. I got ABC at A Level (I had undiagnosed dyslexia so was predicted higher and did well in interviews so that's how I got into my undergrad). It's been a long time since I did all that so I really don't remember!

Yes, I had three different people interview me. One question asked was about anything I had read about SLT and why I wanted to be an SLT and the rest is a bit of a blur sorry. However, Emma suggested a lot of useful tips that helped me. Thank you I pray I get a place too.🙏

Such a useful video! Were there any specific books or articles you read that helped you to prepare, e.g. where did you read about the communication cycle and fundamentals of SLT? It’s quite overwhelming how much there is out there!

I have a book called Speech and Language Therapy as a career that I bought from amazon. This was very helpful. I agree there is so much information and can be so overwhelming. Always remember that they don't expect you to know everything, there is no way that you can. If there is anything particular that you are interested in I would look on the RCSLT site and also google. I used prospects website to research more about becoming an SLT :) Hope this is helpful

Hi Emma! I'm currently preparing myself for the next SLT application season and your videos have been really insightful :) I'm curious, what programs other than the two London unis (if any) you considered for your Msc? I'm from the US and am seriously considering the UK for my Master's, but I'm not very knowledgable about the different unis in the UK. I would love to know your input :) Thanks!

Hi! Your video was so helpful! I’ve just submitted my UCAS application and now it’s a waiting game! I’ve applied to City and I really want to get in. About the interview, what types of questions were you asked? Was the interview just question based, or were there group activities? Would you say there many things to do around Northampton Square?
@emmajoan82833 жыл бұрын
Good luck! Some questions I was asked were: why do I think I am suited to the career? What do I expect to be difficult and how am I going to deal with it? I was also asked about the NHS values. My interview was online so different to the in person interviews, so I am not sure about the group activities. Northampton square is a nice area and building with lots of places to work and chill. Not too far away there are some nice cafes and restaurants too.

Just wondering if there is a specific GCSE subject that I’d NEED to have a specific grade in for the entry requirements of UCL, if I apply for BSc speech & language therapy? If I don’t then would it just be easier to go City?
@emmajoan82833 жыл бұрын
I am not 100% sure I would check the website. I am pretty sure it is passing grades for both English and Maths :)
