Hi! I'm an SLT (not in UK though!). I love watching your videos because I'm also a relatively recent graduate, I work with adults (not in hospital setting). I would love love love more videos/sections about adult SLT related things e.g what Ax's you used, what treatments/interventions worked well and what didn't and the difference between real life and what you learn in uni! Recommendations of different resources - even just a chapter in a book that explains an intervention method really thoroughly (most explanations are soo vague it makes me mad sometimes!). I know discussing this wouldn't necessarily interest non SLT watchers, so I understand if you don't, but I would loooove it so much! Hope you're keeping well, i'm looking forward to whatever types of videos you make next :) L

We were strongly advised to at the start of our course. It gives you access to interesting courses and events, and a lot of placements specifically ask for your student membership number as membership gives you indemnity insurance 🙂

I always saw reality tv as a great thing to completely shut off mentally to while being mildly engaged. We can only do so much focusing, learning, analysing and thinking before we're overwhelmed, and reality tv hands you all the information you need about something so ultimately unimportant to free up your mental processes

Hello Emma! I am a postgraduate student majored in linguistics and I am very interested in SLP but in my country the information about it is quite limited. So I want to ask you is it possible or appropriate for a linguistics major like me who hadn’t medical training to enter SLP? And can you give me some suggestions? Appreciate it a lot! Thank you ❤❤🫶🏻🫶🏻

This is so exciting to hear. I recently accepted a job in Paeds community (early intervention) and had an offer for complex needs & dysphagia (Paeds) - difficult decision as I’m interested in both. Great to hear you’ve been able to have a role in dysphagia having not studied it for a year. Good luck 😊

Hello, I have visited your channel, the quality of your videos is very good. But according to the video quality, there are not many views. Many of the channels in your category are not of good quality, but many views are coming. All those videos are SEO and marketing on various social media. It is because of this that the views come. If your videos are properly SEO'ed and marketed on top social medias then the views will definitely increase as expected.

Hi Emma! I've been binging all your videos as I'm currently an English linguistics major thinking of switching over to Speech & Language therapy. I find the job so lovely as I always wanted to help people and everything about it seems to fit me. In my country, everything is bashed into a bachelors degree and a masters degree isn't required. I was wondering what advice would you have for someone considering studying speech therapy? Is my background in linguistics going to help, and what subjects should I take special care (otherwise more heavy topics) in speech therapy? Thanks in advance :)

Hi Emma! If an SLT is working in prisons, is this usually the only setting they'd be working in, or could that be part of an SLT role that works in different community settings? The variety of the work is something that always gets talked about for SLTs, but is that just because you have a choice of different routes you could go down, rather than the work remaining varied week to week? Thanks

Good luck with your career. I wished that I had decided to become a SLT years ago as I would be a speech therapist with Developmental Language Disorder.

Always look forwards to your videos! I should hopefully be graduating as an SLT next summer, any advice of where and when to start looking for jobs? I love the idea of working in acute care but I'm not sure if it's too competitive for an NQP? Thank u:)
@RitaaLeci2 ай бұрын
So interesting to hear from someone who's moved from paeds to adults! I'll be starting my first NQP job in a few weeks in EY/mainstream schools and hoping I've made the right choice! Can I ask what made you want to move over? I'm getting nervous, especially because all my 2nd year placements were adults so it's been aaages since I've worked with kids!
@emmajoan82832 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I think the reason I moved over is because I knew I liked both Paeds and Adults from my placements and then when I did some adult bank work, I enjoyed that and wanted to move from my Paed job. I also always knew I enjoyed the hospital/ more fast paced settings which I knew I could do in adults at my level, whereas there are rarely Band 5 and less Band 6 jobs in Acute Paediatrics. I think you will learn lots in your Paed job as you go and hopefully you will have good support and training from your team! Good luck with it
@RitaaLeci2 ай бұрын
@emmajoan8283 that makes a lot of sense! It feels tricky that as you go up the bands, the jobs change quite a lot. I feel like there are some settings which only B6/7s work in that I would really enjoy but obviously can't jump straight there! Glad you're enjoying new job 😊

Hey Emily. Yes I definitely think this is great experience. If you ever get the chance to speak to a Speech Therapist that goes into your school or even shadow them, take it ! So nice to see a new video from you! I'm starting the SLT postgrad training course next week -- your videos have really helped ease my nerves and reassure me that it won't be as all-consuming or exhausting as I fear..! Especially nice to hear that your work day finishes before 5pm 😂 Would love to know more about how well you felt your uni course prepared you for the job, now that you've had so much more experience. And it would be great to know if you've had to do much work related stuff outside of your official working hours! Best wishes for you with your work 😊
@emmajoan82832 ай бұрын
Ah I am so glad you have found the videos helpful and they have reassured you. You will be great I am sure. Yes finishing before 5 is a BONUS. I felt the course did help prepare us for a job well as we had placements (in work places) throughout the course and then in our final year we had lectures and seminars about how to apply for jobs etc. I don't take any work home with me from my current job, but I feel that is easier to do when you aren't able to work from home. Hope that helps :)
