I'm a sign maker/ vehicle graphics/vinyl by trade and was asked to install tint on a glass storm door. You informed me of the few differences between applying tint vs vinyl and I thank you for that so I don't make any small mistakes that will just lead to bigger problems ..:) thanks. PS I LOVE installing vinyl vehicle graphics

Thanks very much for the download, I couldn't have done without it. Having an assistant to help with the water spraying was a huge help, even if her suggestion that perhaps I had stuck the film on the wrong side was less so.

Thanks for the video, very informative and helpful. Can you install the film to the upper left corner of the window, without overlapping the sash on the top and left side? That way you only have to trim the right side and bottom overlaps of film.

The tint is suppose to be sprayed while removing the clear liner not after the liner is removed. This is done to stop static discharge which is caused by removing the liner. Static discharge will pull dirt and dust particles from the air onto the tint. Like any other vinyl product when you use the squeegee ALWAYS start from the middle and work your way out with overlapping strokes. Also NEVER pull the squeegee, always push it. On framed windows when using the squeegee to remove water ALWAYS stop about 1" from the window frame. The reason for this stop is any dirt that is on the frame will not be pulled back under the film. When you pulled the tint off to re apply it you should have re sprayed the window. when you remove the release liner you should leave about 5" or so at the bottom of release liner still on the tint. Once the tint is secured in place on the main window that pull the release liner out from the bottom. You need to learn how to trim the edged. The edger is meant to ride along with window frame with the knife on the outside of the edger not the inside of the edger as you are using it. In other words when tinting windows the tint needs about 1/16" gap between the tint and the frame. If not when you squeegee the water at that point no where to escape. Not trying to come across like the boss, just trying to help you in the future with greater success.

The adhesive side is the side with the clear film attached. Yes, you get the adhesive side really wet along with the window. The wetter the better!

Try running the blade down the inside of the 1/16 tool. That way, the the film desn't suck up any leftover stuff in the corners etc. They make a longer 1/16 tool that makes it easier.

Hi, great video and thanks for sharing. What is the purpose of spraying the film on the inside (the side facing inside the room). I understand why the glass side need be wet. But why the side of the film inside of the room? Hope you can enlighten me. Thanks

If you don't, when you're trying to smooth it out, it will likely tear into it. Then more water you use, the easier it is to put on.

would a clear film save energy too? Is this only for hot weather to make it cooler? What about cold weather to insulate heat in?

...a spectra select film from Vista or 3M(I personally would recommend a Huper Optik film). Of course getting a light film that rejects large amounts of heat will cost you extra... a light ceramic film will save you some money and will still do wonders. If you are looking to insulate ask about interlogic film. Call a reputable tinting company in your area and they'll give you a free estimate!

quick question: I live in an apartment, so I'm not allowed to actually put the tint on my windows, but i really want this for privacy purposes (obviously). so my question is, do you think it would work if i just taped it over the window without removing the clear film that is attached to the actual film?

You really need a helper peeling the film because it does stick together and then it’s hard to unstick, then it crinkles. Once on the window, spray ..spray.. takes more than a couple of times to get all that straight lol. It looks easy on video.

If you are searching for a film that will address specific issues you might consider calling a professional residential tinting company. Films sold in stores for DIY projects may have high heat rejection, but are less appealing for your home because of their reflective nature (which reverses at night when it's darker outside than in your home). A professional can show you some very nice films that are light and yet still reject up to half the total solar energy such as Huper Optik Sech film or

You fucked up on this window has to be full of dirt when you pulled it off twice. You shoulda recorded another video because this is unprofessional. Btw I like your tool tho to cut the corners out, you should've 3 way cut the window or set 2 sides to make it easier for beginners
