So sick! I’ve been wondering how people make their tracks move so much. I’ll start practicing this! Do you have videos on how you start a song like this? Where do you prefer starting? Chords? Thanks for everything you put into this video :)

I’m loving your tutorials (I’m the guy that asked about Wavetable lol). Would you be able to do a quick tutorial on side chaining and your typical parameters? Kick + bass was sounding so clean in this tutorial! Great stuff 😀
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 4 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks 🙂 I think I’ve shown my settings before, but it’s usually a pretty fast attack to duck the bass and then the release is kind of up to taste. I like to make it as fast as I can without it creating any bad clicks or pops on the side chained channel.

Interesting. I came upon this video by chance. I started producing orchestral filmmusic during the pandemic and am now taking glimpes into other genres like disco, ambient and EDM. I couldn't imagine creating a 4 bar nearly full produced loop and kind of "extrapolate" to a whole song. As you said, arrangement differs wildly among genres. I think filmmusic may be the genre with the least amount of rules/guidelines but most complex and widest array of possibilities. I always try to sketch my ideas in the DAW with 2 or three melody and harmony MIDI tracks for the whole piece. After that I work out part after part. In every part I build layer upon layer from melody, counter melody, harmony, ostinato, texture and rhythm. Of course not everyting in every part. There would be no sense of dynamics at the level of the whole piece. I have to learn more about filter and effects including their automation. It seems to not only be an ear-candy type of thing but a vital component of arrangement itself.
@khartbeats

I’m a violinist, so I 100% agree that anything cinematic or orchestral or something along those lines would be vastly different. Dynamics and emotional response come from arrangement as well as techniques like filtering. They’re all good tools to have!

Ah, you did mention ideas for videos. Something interesting to me and something I've struggled with. With services like loopcloud a splice, we have access to a lot of sample material. But one thing that I am very interested in is how to make use of vocal samples in my tracks and I think that's most interesting with the longer vocal samples which could be 32 bars or so in length. To me, it's a bit like having access to a singer but I don't even know where to begin with longer samples like this or how to stop them being repetitive. Feels a lot like one shot vocal samples are very ready to use while this is not easy. Bit like training for how to actually deal with a vocal track. Anyway, sorry for the poor description...

I'm using Studio One and my question is, should I use the reverb and delay with the bus channel or should I put them as insert plugins on each channel.
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 4 ай бұрын
That really kind of depends what effect you want. Channel effects will start to dissolve your original sound if you continue to turn the dry/wet up. Busses are great for subtle effects or if you want a bunch of tracks having the same effect.
