Thank u so much sir. Ur the best, the only thing I'm still not able to understand is, finding the base note that goes well with the melody, are alwys the bass note the root of the chords, sir please clear this confusion
@neilchanmusic4 жыл бұрын
Hello, most of the time you can safely use the root of the chord as the bass note. It shouldn't clash for most songs! You can also try out chord inversions, where the bass is either the 3rd, 5th, or 7th of the chord rather than the root. You have to experiment to find which notes dont clash with the melody. But stick to the root and you'll usually be fine :)

@@neilchanmusic hah - don’t worry about it. Just that us Scots are very precious about Robert Burns, and the ‘auld Scots tongue’ which should never be regarded as English. Some sassenachs will say Burns took the English language and butchered it, which is just ignorance.

Thank you for the lesson. I have one doubt regarding the melody and solvate. Like this song starts from so do….. how do we know the starting of the song is not from do? I always think of first note as do always. I believe that is not true always. So how do we figure out that the starting note is not do? Thank you.
@neilchanmusic Жыл бұрын
Hey you’re right in that many songs do not start from do! What you should do is listen to the song for awhile and find where ‘do’ is by singing random notes up and down the scale until you reach ‘do’. Then listen again for the first note, and see how it relates to the ‘do’ you’ve found. Start from ‘do’ and sing up or down the scale until you find that starting now. It takes practice but it works and the process will just get faster over time. Hope this helps!

It’s rlly weird bc I can make my own arrangements (albeit very simplistic) on the keyboard w both left and right hand naturally and self taught but when it comes to guitar I’m lost like I have no musicality
@neilchanmusic4 ай бұрын
It's really normal! Its a lot easier to visualise the components of harmony and melody separately on each hand on the piano. For the guitar they're all jumbled up together. But with the right method and practice it becomes a lot clearer, which is what I've dedicated many years studying and teaching :) Are you interested to learn this method in more detail?
@DivineAneke4 ай бұрын
@@neilchanmusic thank you so much for clarifying this I thought there was something wrong with how I approached the guitar 😅 When I learn a song on the guitar it’s purely muscle memory and that bothers me, it’s like playing with my eyes closed constantly, I want to be able to visualise what I’m doing and even add improvisations 💪🏾
@flyme40794 жыл бұрын
Hey Neil, may I ask you something? At 9:37 that you said "improvised fingering around the chords... it elevates the melodies". I want to learn the idea behind it and how to do it? Is there a specific keyword to look for on this topic? or even better, do you have a video that you talk about this? Thank you so much in advance
@neilchanmusic4 жыл бұрын
Hey Sakpat! Thanks for your question. Essentially I am arpeggiating the chord while playing the melody, that is playing individual notes of the chord to decorate the main melodic line. Can you explain how you connect the "na na na ..." to the solfege notes?
@neilchanmusic3 жыл бұрын
You will need to practice (and practice a LOT) singing the scale to solfege syllables. Keep doing it day after day and eventually when you hear a melody, any melody on any instrument, as long as it's within the scale, you will start to hear the notes immediately as solfege syllables. You have to experience it for youself! It takes hard work and dedication but its very worth it.
@LoveNjustice3 жыл бұрын
