Follow the instructions and do not, I mean do not, get water into the USB socket or turn the base over and get water into the motor vent. Only clean the base with a slightly damp paper towel. We had an issue where after cleaning and refilling the unit with water the blue light came on and the motor started but stopped a few seconds later and the light turned red. This unit senses the water level by a capacitive effect. There is a metal flag on the little circuit board that is inserted into the raised rectangle next to the switch from the underside. This is how it senses the water level. If you get the little circuit board wet it will short the electronics and the water level cannot be sensed. You might get lucky and dry it out and it will work again as ours did. Testing this water level operation is simple. Empty the unit for cleaning and plug it back in. The light will turn blue for a few seconds and then red as the motor stops. Place the tip of your finger on the side of the raised plastic on the same side as the switch. The unit should sense your finger and start the pump and the light will turn back to blue and stay that way as long as you keep your finger there. I hope this helps understand the unit better.

where is the switch? i might have water damaged mine, as it won’t turn on and only flashes red.

We're sorry to hear you're having difficulty with both your fountain and the instructions! Please know our manuals are written by our teammates, with creating the best experience we can for our customers in mind. Your fountain will remind you to change the filter every 3 weeks. If you have already changed your filter and need to reset this timer, press and hold the status light/button for 10 seconds, then release the button.

@@petsafebrand HAHA sorry .. that came out wrong.. the instructions clearly state to not run the device with out water.. but then the step to reset the filter button or light clearly doesnt say remove the BIN that holds the water, and on top of that it doesnt say to plug it in.

In case this is helpful, the filter replacement steps on page 2 of the manual do advise to always unplug the fountain and remove the bowl from the fountain before changing the filter. We're so sorry if this was not seen previously, and we'll absolutely share your feedback on including the step of plugging the fountain back in.
