I haven't messed with split rims in a long time and for a good reason. They were item #1 on the 'To Replace' list. :-)

@@haniballector I typically put some over the castle nut and cotter pin but it's not necessary.

Use a caliper and measure the axle. Measure where the inner bearing and outer bearing sit

Tim is absolutely correct. Also, if the current bearings aren't destroyed, you can look for the L-Number etched into them and cross reference by that. Caliper will get you the right bearing every time, however.

unfortunately it didn't fit I can't find a hub that fits 1 1/4" spindle 5 lug anyone have any suggestions

@@ronbelcher9301 in what way didn't it fit? Bearing Diameter or hub thickness? I'll try to find you one that will work. I ran into an issue with the trailer in this video. I had to end up ordering shorty hubs because the spindles weren't long enough for regulars.

If my wheels have play in them does that mean I need near bearings? It wobbles

If your wheels are wobbling there is a good chance it will need new bearings. The castle nut could also be loose, but if it's been driven very far with a wobbly wheel because of a loose nut, I'm not sure I'd still trust the bearing. When you remove the hub and bearing assembly, be sure to inspect the spindle for any signs of damage or gouging. A damaged spindle will eat up a brand new set of bearings rather quickly.

I had to buy the split rim assembly because I can’t find a hub bearing to fit 3/4 shaft. I haven’t used the trailer in years. I have the castle nuts but must’ve threw out the washer accidentally when I tossed the bearings. Do you know if a standard 3/4 flat washer will work? Good video.

I'm not sure if a standard 3/4 washer will fit inside the hub. The outer diameter of the washer may be too big. I ran into a similar problem on this trailer and ended up using a 5/8 washer that I bored the center out to 3/4. It's been working perfectly.

@@TheWeekendAngler I found the right washer. Now my castle nut is too long. Lol. I have to find a shorter one or grind mine down. Always something. Just thought I’d share. Also, mine is not a split rim. It’s just that the bearings are built into the rim.

@@karvtek I definitely feel for you. A shorter one would be the best solution because grinding the other one deeper could potentially compromise its strength.

I took the castle nut off but no washer. Do all trailers supposed to have a washer behind the castle nut?

@@DCSForge there should be one. The washer is what applies preload to the bearings.
