Awesome video !!!! I like the way you went through the whole thing, great for beginners. Even little things like a screw driver in the gator clips. Never thought to do that. I'm looking for project kits I can buy. Assemble. Flip. A PCB flipper??!!! LOL. This too time consuming I think. $50 and hour labor, parts, mark up. I'd sell some but not many I bet. Not enough amps too. Stocking stuffer, sure. But that's it. Although the finished project sure is beautiful. $15. Assemble sell for $150 -$200. If I could beef it up to 5 amps. Hmmmm

I ordered one of these a couple of years ago, they sent me the wrong transformer and it just would not put out any usable voltage from our 110 volts here in the USA. After some time, I came upon an old transformer that was small enough to fit in the case and rewired that in. Now it works. I never use it, but it does work. I should just toss it or something I use old 18650 batteries for all my power needs. I built one set with a meter that gives me 5 to 12 volts, and another that gives me 12 volts up to 24, and my big boy puts out 24 to 36 volts. As much as I use them, charging isn't a real problem, about once every couple of months I rotate the cells and recharge the ones that I have been using, more often with the 5 volt system, of course.

Very nice device, I would definitely buy one. This might not be suitable for kids though, because of the mains transformer. An adult should definitely connect and insulate the mains power cord. And even then you should know about the danger and never plug it in if the wires are exposed.
@DollarbillDollarbill6 жыл бұрын
My kit came with the cord attached to transformer on primary side. In my case I had to change the transformer ,diodes, capacitor ratings, and change the lm317 to lm388.My only real complaint with it was the transformer. The other stuff I changed just because I wanted 3 amps at 13 volts.Yes since your working with live voltage I would think you need adult supervision.

Thank you for the nice video. Nice kit, this is a old school power supply with a Transformer. capacity 1.25 to 37 Volt out 1.5 amp max. Nice power supply and charger not expensive. For little money you can also buy a digital DC tot DC confuter this in combination with an old adapter, or old notebook power supply. i have a 10 amp DC tot dc confuter working on a 120W 24V notebook supply.

I was seeing a ton of comments about the devices power output.. so I thought I'd give a good explanation of why there is confusion. The first thing to note is that you can draw a ton of amps if your voltage is low. If it is high however, then you will be able to very little amprage. For more on this, look at some explainations of "watts". Now, because this is a Linear Voltage Regulator, it has a pretty limited amperage/power output. This is because Linear Voltage Regulators dissipate the energy Dropped as HEAT. This means that, say you have a 24v source you are putting into the regulator. Your load is 3v and draws 1a of current. That would mean that the linear regulator would need to dissipate 21W of power as heat. :( This is 1w more than the chip can handle as an absolute maximum and would very realistically MELT the solder off of the pins it would create so much heat. What you want is going to be something that can drop the voltage without dissipating that energy as heat. You need something that can simply switch the power on and off thousands or 10's of thousands of times a second to a ratio of input voltage to desired output voltage, where it can then be smoothed by something like a capacitor. :) This is called a Boost converter. :D Take a look at some videos on this! I recommend the videos from AfroTech where he talks about linear voltage regulators and boost converters in depth. A boost converter can be upwards of 95% efficient, meaning it only has to drop 5% of the power as heat. You can buy cheap boost converters at amazon/ebay/bangood for only a dollar or so, then stick that onto an old power brick that you have lying around. Solder some wire and a larger, case-mountable potentiometer and then a cheap multimeter module from ebay/amazon/etc (about 3$) and you have yourself a very very capable power supply that will be able to output 1a at 18 volts no problem! If you just search youtube for "boost converter power supply" you will see a ton of examples of this sort of setup. :) I hope all this helps!

That is easy mate just connect the green and a black together and that's it. You can go for what ever size you wish. Mine is 550 Watts PSU, use what ever size and power you need. Then you get What my 550way PSU gives me Ground Black wires 12 Volts @ 26Amps Yellow wires 5 Volts @ 29Amps Red wires 3.3 volts @ 28Amps Orange wires -12 Volts Blue wire -5 Volts White wire As you can see its a good size Amps for a cheap PSU Around £25.00 UK Would be happy to put a vid up, have a few power supply hanging about. Regards Dave UK

You have a green wire on the 20 pin connector and connect it to one black wire on the same connector and plug the power supply in and you can get it working with diferend voltages!

Unfortunately the LM317 is extremely inefficient when it comes to a large differential between Vin and Vout and the required current load.... I recommend a SMPS (switched mode power supply) instead.

i want to know how do i know the amps of a battery if i want to power any electronic device intead of a power adapter. For example if a device needs 3v 0.4 A power adapter then how am i going to know how many amps two AA 1.5 v battries are going to give if connected in series? I know that in series both of them will give 3v but how do i know about the amps because all types of batteries are not having same ampere hour ratings!

@imnotbeluga0073 жыл бұрын
The regulator is the same, but his has way less parts, and it's not on a PCB. But it could support up to 37V, which this kit (probably) can't. And especially, that voltmeter has a separate power wire, so not turned off at low voltages!
