How to attach a Hercules 7" Universal Surface Grinding Dust Shroud to Angle Grinder | Harbor Freight

This video shows you how to install a 7 inch Universal surface grinding dust shroud to your angle grinder. There have been many complaints that the dust shroud does not fit the angle grinder and this is how to put it on.

I just purchased this dust shroud and a Dewalt DWE402W. This shroud does not fit this particular angle grinder per the instructions above. However. I was able to use my bench grinder to clearance the inner shroud metal ring where it was hitting the grinder body. With a little ingenuity I was able to make it work.

How do you put on the grinder wheel after installing!?? This thing is such a pain to figure out!

I can’t get mine to work. The dimond cup wheel rubs against the shroud and locks the whole machine up

Are you using Hercules angle grinder? It should fit, not perfect, but enough to where there isn't rubbing

@@WasabiGatoyes I figured it out. I didn’t realize that I don’t have to use the Lugnut for the diamond wheel.

The engineering of this tool should be a little embarrassing for Harbor Freight. It should take an extra set of hands to seat the shroud onto the grinder. As much as you have to twist, push, and level the shroud to get it on the grinder, it feels like I was rigging something up to work unsafely. If not for this video, I absolutely would not trust that is the proper install. Regarding the function... I was not at all impressed. After using the grinder with the attached shroud for approximately 10 mins in a confined bathroom space, I could barely see my hand in front of my face due to the amount of fine dust in the air. I don't know if the shop vac I was using wasn't powerful enough but a lot of dust was escaping the vacuum suction. Considering returning it to the store.

There shouldn't be a lot of dust, the shroud should do its job and direct all the dust to the tube attached to your shop vac.

I'm quite certain that is not how you attach the ring. You should not put it inside of that little groove. Instead, it should rest just above instead of loosening that bolt. Before putting it on, you should tighten it as much as you can before putting it on.

The ring would rub against the diamond blade if you did that. And also, you will lose too much thread for the diamond blade to screw on which would make the tool dangerous to use. The way I did it, has held firm when I leveled 1,300 sq ft of concrete with this specific Hercules angle grinder tool.

@WasabiGato I ended up doing it the way that I described and also grinded about 200 square foot with no issues (7" hercules model). I still feel pretty confident it was designed to accept it the way that I put it on. It went on straight and easily the first time. I feel like we should reach out to the manufacturer to confirm, though.

There is no way that collar goes on the way you're showing. If it did, they would've made the inside diameter big enough to suit that fit. Also, there would only be an eighth of an inch of contact surface. Maybe instead of misleading people you should put your camera away bro.

You're either using the wrong adapter, not following my instructions or not using the Hercules angle grinder with the Hercules Dust Shroud. With the correct parts, the shroud will fit. Harbor Freight Hercules line of tools work well with each other. If you can't get it to fit properly no matter what you do, return it all for a full refund, it's probably a defect.
