How to attach a USB external hard drive to a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 using LAVA’s Charge-Plus adapter. While this video focuses on a specific tablet, the Charge-Plus adapter provides simultaneous charging and access to data to various mobile devices.

Thank you sir, But please tell me if I can connect HDD Hard drive also ,or only SSD Hard drives ? I ask that because HDD is mechanical with moving parts ,and needs more power !

Hi there, it is difficult to make a broad statement about hard drives because, as you indicated, some hard drives require more power to run, which ultimately is what prevents the hard drive from spinning up. That being said, we have connected a number of different hard drives with success, but if the power required to run a hard drive exceeds the power available in the system, after charging the Tablet, then that would prevent the hard drive from functioning. One other thing to keep in mind has to do with File formats, Android devices are only capable of reading FAT file structures so if a drive is formatted for NTFS then a Tablet would be unable to read the drive. - LAVA Team

Hello, hopefully i can get a response before classes start, but i have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Tab(SM-X700) and want to attach a hard drive so i use that as a virtual machine to run Linux for practice. Which product would you recommend to be able to run this without overheating?

Hi there, while we haven't had a chance to test the SM-X700 ourselves, we have heard reports from customers that have been successfully using the SM-X700 with our products. That being said the SM-X700 appears to be a very power-hungry tablet, so I would strongly recommend looking at our Fast Charging product (lavalink.com/lavasimulcharge/product/esync-vc3u-f/) in order to keep the Tablet charged up. As for running a Virtual Linux Machine on the S8, that is something that we have never done, nor been asked about before, so unfortunately I can't make any promises about being able to make that happen using our hardware. - LAVA Team

As I said we don't have any experience running Virtual Machines on Samsung Tablets, nor have we used the SM-X700, but based on what we're hearing it should support Simultaneous Charging. Given that, going with our 3U that supports fast charging would allow you to access a number of connected USB peripherals while keeping the Tablet Charged, which would be a good alternative to a Laptop. - LAVA Team

Yes! Most Tablets can read an external hard drive using just an OTG Cable, assuming that the drive is formatted in a FAT file structure and there is enough power to power the drive. That being said, what makes us different is our Charge-Plus product allows you to charge a Tablet while also accessing the connected hard drive. So, assuming your Tablet supports simultaneous charging, this means your Tablet won't die halfway through a transfer, or while watching a movie. - LAVA Team

Hi there, while it is possible to get our Charge-Plus to work with the SM-T733 (i.e. Galaxy Tab S7 FE), that particular tablet has a bit of a quirk when redetecting hardware. So if you're going from an Unpowered to a Powered state you'll need to disconnect from the Tablet in order to renegotiate the power contract. So it wouldn't be ideal for a commercial setup, however, it should be fine for casual home use. If you're looking at something a little more reliable to use with the SM-T733 I would recommend looking at our nSync or eSync line of products. It is the same sort of idea as our Charge-Plus, with more features and greater reliability. - LAVA Team

​@@abishaidemetrius2949 If you're using this for casual use you should still be able to connect your hard drive to an SM-T733 Tablet, it's really only in the situation where you're cycling power on the ChargePlus. The bigger issue would be if the HDD is formatted for NTFS, since Android can only read a FAT file structure.
