How To Attach Studs To Polymer Clay Earrings

This is probably the biggest concern for every earring maker out there because I have had posts fallen off and it's just the worse thing! There are lots of different ways to attach posts but this is the method that works for me.

I actually use base and topcoat nail polish gel. I cheered under a UV light and it works amazingly.

Beautiful what i did notice is that you didnt score the back of the polymer clay I have read in a forum that if you score the back before applying bond and bake or glue makes it adhere better, but that is just a suggestion. With normal clay that gets fired in kiln you always have to score then attach the piece with slurry otherwise it will break or fall off.I love your designs beautiful.

I've tried this with super glue and liquid sculpy clay and and a lot of them tore off really easy should I use a different glue or should I cover the whole entire thing with liquid clay or do I need to put a thicker layer of liquid clay on it?

maybe you should try scoring the clay beforehand to help the glue adhere better?

hi,do you wait till the glue dry up then place the liquid clay or you can place the liquid clay even the goue still not dry up?

I only use a tiny bit of glue just to keep it in place. You don’t have to wait for the glue to dry, you can just add liquid clay over it.

Those cards are actually business cards that I designed to look like earring backing cards! It’s a lot cheaper than getting actual earring backing cards 😅

Question- so you add the backing after you bake the first time and then bake it again? Don’t you risk burning it?

@@asteinb2 yes! You can actually rebake polymer clay pieces over and over again as long as it’s at the right temperature.

Possibly a stupid question, but could you gently smush the stud into the fly before it’s baked so you don’t have to glue?

The clay is already baked so it doesn't really work to squish it and so you'll need something to hold it in place.

Thank you for this video! When you cure it in the oven have you done it with glazed pieces? I did this metod and some pieces were I had used Fimo glaze (to get some Shine) it attatched to the parcment paper and the glazing was destroyd after that! All uneven! Has that ever happend to you?!

I would probably recommend glazing them after you attach the studs so that you won’t have the problem of the glaze coming off and sticking onto anything.

Hey is IT Sade to bake it with e6000 ? Do you follow aby safety rules?

I haven’t had any issues with it and know that the only thing with baking E6000 is the bond degrades. I only use it to keep my studs in place and mainly depend on the liquid clay for bonding.

Hi. This is a year late but I thought I should answer anyway. Super glue like e6000 will degrade with heat and weaken and might even start sliding the pieces attached to it so I would not recommend you to bake glue!

Not if it’s at the right temperature. I’ve rebaked my pieces multiple times and have had no issues with it burning.

Hi, it's quite difficult to find Bake & bond/ liquid clay in my place, is it possible to change it to varnish for painting instead??

Hi! The bake & bond/liquid clay is what seals the studs in and varnish might not do the job. Another option you can use is resin.

Where do you get you earring backs/ jump rings/ loops/ or any non clay parts?

I get all my findings on Etsy. I usually get surgical steel posts and backings or at least make sure they are nickel free.

You put the e6000 on raw clay? Didn’t know it was safe to do that

I’ve been doing this and I’ve had them peel right off. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you use a brush to smoothen the edges and blend it out so that it won’t peel off. When rebaking it, check that the temperature is accurate too.
