2. Keep both hands on and rotate chest to side by the time their shot bounces
3. Contact above net level so you can drive the ball and not have to lift it over the net

Thanks Ryan. Can you suggest the best target to aim for on the ball itself? That is , is the top hemisphere of the ball best (with nearly closed racket face) in this particular example or should I hit the ball flat with a slightly closed racket?

You kind of addressed it Ryan, however, I wouldn't recommend rec players to take the ball as high as Felix is here off the bounce and over their head. This makes it a tougher ball to put away as you're weaker at that swing height, unless you have great vertical leg drive timing like Felix demostrates here.

I completely agree. Worked for him but not for rec players. Simply playing the ball higher than net height is all that’s needed. Thanks!

Also, hitting the ball that high makes it difficult to hit with topspin. However, a flat shot is risky, so you actually wanna hit it strong side/topspin (kind of like a kick serve) which you see Felix do here. I saw that explained in another video and found it quite helpful.

Another markedy useful analysis👏👏, but 1) I wonder if there are aspects of Felix’s preparation and execution that are inapplicable to the recreational player. The vertical leap that Felix makes in order to hit the ball seems not to be a result of ground forces generated by trunk rotation but rather to actually be an elevation to allow him to drive a high ball. This makes it unclear whether or not the rec player (who would be best advised to stay on the ground 🙂) should hit with a closed stance or perhaps try to arrange a semi open stance allowing better trunk rotation and less “arming” of the ball 2) should we aim to hit a flat or angled down ball that drops into play due to gravity, or should we try to put some top spin on the ball?

Same but without jumping. Hit it lower just not jump. Never open stance.

He hit that ball out of closed/slightly neutral stance. It could have only gone one direction. Do you recommend this stance for high short balls?

A problem that I personally have with short balls is often the ball doesn't come above net height. But, I expect it to. I try to get in position to attack a ball like this and end up with very poor positioning.

I think you have to move in quicker and meet the ball before it drops below the net level so you can hit down on it. Once it drops below the net, it's too late to attack.

@@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviourIt has to be above the net at some point, in order to cross over the net. So you need to move in quicker, and get to it at its highest point, top of the bounce. If you get in too slow, it'll drop below the net and you have to hit up.

@@leebr2010 just because a ball goes over the net doesn't mean it will bounce over it? Of course you're right though, the best opportunity on a low ball is at the peak of it's bounce.

Felix hit that shot to the backhand side not because it is a weaker side but because he (most likely) say Janek moving to the forehand side.
