Thanks Rusian. Some of the reasons I got gigs. I was able to transcribe solos for cover bands. Arrange horn parts, sing harmony parts when I wasn't playing sax, play keyboards for strings, AND prepared to play for very little money just to get experience. Eventually I ran my own function band and employed top studio musicians. Above all, I was humble and grateful for these musicians putting up with my learner state. I was able to pay them way above studio rates. A lot of top musicians miss out on work because of their reputation as being top musicians and probably too expensive to employ. I owned all the charts and didn't require rehearsals. We winged it and even if there was a train wreck in the middle of a song I would just say "top" and the audience were none the wiser. We got the job done and enjoyed ourselves. On one gig, I completely lost my place but didn't say anything. It was one of the best versions of the song the band had ever done. I got off the stage and admired the band as they improvised.

My life lesson have been the opposite one. I've started playing piano by ear in 4 years old and i've started to play drums at 8. The drums was very easy instrument to me, cause i've played with all kind of football, basketball with boxes drum kit setups in my home already. Then I've spent then 9 years in the kids band school, where i was took place in the best bands in the first year, cause our principal saw my talent in the begining. But when i attended to Helsinki Pop Jazz conservatory, i got in after 1 tryout. Then i almost graduated in the basic musical academy. But the drum teachers never let me go to the professional studies, even i've tried for over 7 times. I though that was because they were envy of me, cause i've got this bigger gift (perfect pitch, natural groove, great song memory etc.). I've practised all the time with the many albums of different type of music and i've done it loud, with the drum class amplyfiers. That dropout in the Pop Jazz Conservatory i took by personally, cause this professional conservatory studies was the place, where almost every Finnish professional musicians get their future gigs by larger the social networks. After couble of years i coudn't get in to one Orimattila insitute to study music technology studies, cause this maine teacher was envy of my piano playing skills. He said that "in your case it would be better, if you attendee to the Helsinki pop jazz conservatory". That felt a personal. But in the later years i've managed to get in one of the schools in Finland, which offered a teaching music technology, so i've learn to recording and mixing engineer studies. This was after all a win win situation. I've still been going my own way, and all these envy musicians are actually my best spiritual teachers. They gave me a strong life lesson about forgiving. They felt envy, cause they felt me by somekind of threat. But still those envy musicians trying to practise themself after all. Still all that envy can everyone turn to practise, which just motivated them after all to practise more. I've know that in the USA there are always better musicians everywhere, but here in Finland it's a little smaller country. Here usually the most talented one's have to struggle, cause the envy people hurt them by stronger, cause these most talented ones are a very sensitive persons. And this kind of special talent can also lead to direct discrimination in the local musical community and there are also the hidden black lists, when you don't get the job almost anywhere. And if youre black listed here, if you trying to get a jazz gig, they won't answer your emails. You're almost a ghost to them. And if youre attended the local jazz jam session, then suddenly there was this 4 years of break, when these jam sessions couldn't managed to get the jam venue anymore, until the 4 years of break. But in my life i've payed a very big price for this all, and the main reason is, cause i'm a very famous dissident here in Finland. I haven't been shut up. Then those my haters think, that i've ruined my career with this action. So if the telling the truth does this. Then it does it. But now im 42 years old and after all now i realized, that i've trusted these fucking conservatory institutions like a child. Even those 7 years studies there at the basic music studies was a very boring. Even i've got a few own jazz trio's there and one quartet, which got a local gigs at the school venues. Then i got the school's big-band also, which was also a fun experience. But still i need to tell this one. This jazz department of jazz in Finland (Sibelius Academy). They don't got in any of over 40 years old students, so it's a pure ageism. Cause here in Finland they though that the jazz music studies has to start at early age and mostly of these 4-5 students who got in, are the jazz department teachers children etc. So let's get my childen in to the jazz department's master's education program, so that my child won't get mad. And of course this kind of nepotism will feed the jazz elitism here by strong percents. So it's a little bit of sad, that if you area mediocre level of musician, then you get the mostly all gigs. That's why i almost never fit in, when there was there small oppotournities to get in of any music school. Because i've always wanted to shine and be the best musician there ever been. But that's why i've encountered a lot of jealous people in my life, because of that. I don't want to be that mediocre oridinary guy just playing the 3 chords in every night and got those tattoo's to fit in the band.

I used to work at a rehearsal studio while in music school. There was this one band who recently got signed, but then lost their bass player. They were kind of a progressive rock I guess you'd call it. They had a week or two of bassists coming in most weren't very good and they were getting down about it. Then this black bass player comes in to audition and just nails it, they rehearse with him a couple days and he was a great fit for the group. Then they were up at the counter and booking more time for more bass auditions. I ask them I thought you found a perfect match for he was great musician. They say yes he was great, BUT our producer said a black good looking bassist will distract people from looking at our singer?????? I just shook my head and thinking that the kind of dumbass shit a record company would come up with, That looks on stage or in video is more important than the music. And people wonder what happened to Pop music, it's about the image first and music secord or even third importance. For me personally the best audition I ever did was for a funky singer songwriter who had written some hits and was going to try being a solo act. The audion was at Capital Records studio, the other guys in the band were great rock solid musicians and the material was really cool Country Funk and the songwriter was laidback and easy to work with. We played most the night and on one of the breaks I was talking to the songwriter and blown away to find out this funky character had a PHD in music from a big university. I knew I wasn't cutting it, but we all just had a good time playing all night. So even though I didn't get the gig I had a great time and got to play with some really good musicians. I went out thinking I might not of got the gig but I was good enough to hang with those guys and make a night of it.

ranaair thank you. It’s funny, I make some very deep jazz videos and some more general Videos like this one, for many different kinds of musicians. I thought videos like THIS one will have more views, because they appeal to many people in the world.. but it seems like it’s not getting a whole lot of views somehow :)
