Hello Jeppe, Thank you very much for your comments. As far as I have understood so far, both the selectors and the variables work according to the same pattern (I had also hoped in advance of my question that the variables would react differently - but in the meantime I think that the variables simply contain the selectors). I dare to say that your example (thank you very much again! :-) ) works because the title bar of the two program windows are different. My situation is that I have two instances of the same program - with identical window titles. So it's like opening two wordpads (without document - rsp. default-empty-document). The selectors are therefore "identical" (in all cases - "almost identical"). Since the selector also contains the program path, I tried the idea to store the program (according to my initial question the WordPad - in my real world it is not WordPad) redundantly in different paths - in the selector I can see the different paths - but so far I could not persuade UIPath to distinguish the instances based on this different paths... :-) :-) What trick is there? Thank you very much Thomas

@@UiPathwithJeppe well, the basic question is probably more - whether we still like UIPath or not... 😄 What can I say - with AutoIT I would just use the ProcessID... 😄 Because - yes - in my situation I effectively have two instances of the same program open - and have to jump back and forth between these two instances (so neither title line nor program path are different (I could keep the program path 'different' if necessary (either by a program copy or a Windows symlink)). But a modern tool (UIPath) will probably also provide modern methods - I just haven't found/recognized them yet... Thanks for any tips! 😄

​ @UiPathwithJeppe Hello Jeppe, ... in German we use to say: I take everything back and claim the opposite ... `Your` variables work wonderfully - if you `fill` them correctly... As I said before - I am not dealing with WordPad - but with an `old` app - I only now realise that this is important... sorry! 😄 This old APP can NOT be started via the "use application" action. Unfortunately, this "use application" is missing the working directory - and without a working directory we are not in the correct application directory and so the app cannot find the configuration. No problem - so I use the "start process" action to start the app (because a working directory can be specified there). And now the "use application" follows and should attach itself to this newly started process. It is only in this context that the problem with the selectors arises. This is because I cannot find the (correct) application with selectors - or I find the one that is already running or the one that has just been started by chance. And so I now claim that 'your' variables work... 😄 ... but I'll probably have to use the ProcessIDs to find out which PID I have to set "use application" to - or work with "invoke" and "system.io.directory" to set the working directory (am I allowed to do that - or am I causing problems for the UIPath robot? 🙄) We love UIPath 😄

Very Useful Jeppe. I think they are referred as 'Session Variables' in other applications. I think one can use to jump between Excel sheets as well. Don't you think?
