I should have mentioned pricing in the video (sorry) here's the link elevenlabs.io/app/subscription - you would need the Creator Plan to use this feature, which currently is $22 per month as of May 2024. This gives you 100,000 Characters per month (~2 hours audio).

Thanks for demonstrating this. It's good to get a taste of what's out there and store this in the back of the mind in case a future need arises. I didn't actually pick it as your voice until you mentioned it was you. Maybe your sample might have featured you speaking in a less animated way than you do in your videos. But it sounded really good and quite natural. It really is quite impressive.

Are there any websites out there actually using this please? Also, the pricing is according to thousands of characters per month. So when a site visitor plays the post or page audio it counts each character played?

re pricing you - the character count is for the conversion, not each time it's played by visitors :) If you want to you can download the converted audio file and upload to your website directly. You can also edit the audio file on 11 labs and update.

@@jamiewp I read their T&Cs as explicitly forbidding downloading and using the audio standalone. Do you have a source for that download and play ability?

I like the idea, but you didn't discuss the opaque (I can't work out ahead of time what it would cost) pricing, and more importantly that one is required to grant to 11Labs a license for a long list of purposes. They need some license in order to transform your input, but why oh why do the need a license to sub-license all YOUR content and through multiple tiers. The FAQ is also opaque in terms of how it works - for example, if I have it recite a 1000 character blog, is that a one off, or 1000 characters per "listener" who plays the audio? Finally, I can't use the output in any standalone form. I love the technology, but not their business practices.

Great tool and thank you for highlighting it. Though if using it to explain something complex, can it emphasise important points as a human would? So for example, I would speak in a certain way, using pauses, intonation, emphasis and stress on certain words and phrases.
