This is the right wiring etc but i highly recommend NOT doing this on the top side of the board! Its very easy to slip and bridge the legs of the chip when soldering and to accidently melt the plastic on the catridge holder bit!! Much better and just as easy (once you can locate the legs) to do this mod on the bottom of the board. There is still enough clearence etc and much lower risk.. food for thought especially for beginners

This actually looks more easy then i thought! I will look into the total costs of doing this, i want all my consoles to have atleast av output (so i can put scart on the other end) I don't wanna keep on switching cables at the back of my tv. I already got 5 consoles out of 8 on scart with a scartbox with a switch, really nice to not have to go behind the tv. Only my Mastersystem Megadrive and Snes are co-axle still..

O.K. Done it and it's successful. Thanks so much for putting this video up. My master system has been reborn and is plugged in to a modern 40 inch TV. I put the resister and capacitor away from the chip though. Now I need to do the same for my megadrive and Snes.

I can't imagine any of those consoles looking better on a 40 inch LCD/LED than a CRT, even with upscaling, unless the CRT is really old and shitty.
@steoneste
@steoneste 7 жыл бұрын
+Mogura87 Just so I can use them for the future that's all. I'll not be keeping the CRT's forever. I've got an interstate 1110 aswell, it's my oldest console and it's a pain in the arse to tune it up to a modern TV.
@Mogura87
@Mogura87 7 жыл бұрын
I know we can't expect to keep CRTs forever but I want to enjoy them while they're still around. I'm willing to move on to LCD with top quality scaling eventually, but that kind of scaler is about as expensive as 2-3 high end CRTs (PVMs), and you'll still have some degree of input lag on any scaler+LCD while CRTs have zero period.

Great video! Thought I would mention that some master system consoles for some reason output flickering pink/blue or black&white screens during some of the gameplay/demo of a game. Instead of a 75ohm, I used a 220ohm resitor. Slightly darker picture (not too dark) but fixes the issue. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

Hello there. My SMS mkII doesn't have that Sony chip. At the IC9 position, it has a physically smaller 24-pin chip marked MB3514 on the first line and 9227 M09 on the second line. On the left, it has a logo of a capital 'F' with horizontal lines above and below it. Will this be the same principal?

Hey nice tutorial. But what is the resistor and the capacitor for?? in some other mod tutorials they just soldered the wires for audio and video to the upperside of the PCB and conected them to the chinch jacks. what is the difference?
@Slot1Gamer
@Slot1Gamer 8 жыл бұрын
+BattleSausage Resistor is to keep the same "impedance" as the TV's composite input (75ohms). The capacitor acts as a small amp and filter, without it most TV's won't pickup or hold the signal

Hi wonderful video going to do this mod what drill size bit did you use to make the holes in the case? Thank you.
@Slot1Gamer
@Slot1Gamer 7 ай бұрын
Thank you ! 😌 Your best bet is to measure your connectors, the part that you want to be through the case, I usually use the flush mount ones so you measure the diameter of the threaded part at the back of the connector
@Retrobution
@Retrobution 3 жыл бұрын
I am going to do this, but with an S video connector, if this is possible, just need to figure out the pinouts of the s video connector, and so then I can remove the RF connector and have the s video fit there, so then i won't need to drill into the master system case

Slot1Gamer did the mod but didn’t get any video. Audio works fine. I resoldered the resistor and capacitor but to no avail. It’s the correct components too. So it’s just an rf console with better audio and an extra hole in the back. 😞 This was definitely harder than it looked. I think I may have somehow ruined pin 20. It doesn’t look ruined but that’s the source of the problem, unless it was a bad resistor or cap but I doubt it.

Guys if you do something like this I would advise you to NOT use any metal/foil tape because over time the adhesive may fail and then you would have foreign matter bouncing around that is electrically conductive and begging to fry/short circuit your device!

Great tutorial! I need some help though. I got it to work for a couple of minutes but I noticed some buttons on my controller wasn't working so I turned off the console and went to go repair/clean the controller. When I got back and plugged everything in and turned it on but nothing came up on the display, not even a little noise when you usually start it. Any ideas? I poked around with the multimeter and nothing is shorting out. I checked the power supply and it is outputting 14V but when connected to the console if I check the other side of the DC connection it is only showing a low voltage like 1.5V when the switch is off and something like 2 - 4V when switched off. Could this be the problem?
@michaelmclaughlin6141
@michaelmclaughlin6141 6 жыл бұрын
the psu will output around 14v when there is no load (i.e. not connected) you need to check the 7805 regulator (usually on the left side of the motherboard near the pause button. It should have 9-12v on the input (left leg), 0v on the ground (middle leg) and 5v on the output (right leg). If you're getting anything other than that replace the regulator and try again

I felt that having the RCA ports on the back was not good in that aspect, so I replaced the RF module with the same 8 pin miniDIN the Mega Drive 2 uses and you can use the cables from that console, no need to make holes in the back of the Master System as the MD2 connector fits in the original RF hole if you line the port up right, and it can be removed and replaced with the original RF module again to put back to original if you ever wanted to... can even tape the RF board to the inside of the console on the right so it doesn't get lost!! No RF board also means less power demand and less strain on the old power components. Also, you can use the same port for RGB output if you have the ability to use RGB where you live, which is WAY superior to composite, and only requires connecting 4 more cables if using SCART.

Hi, thanks for the video. I did the exact same thing, excep i didn't put the capacitor in the video. The image is black and white, could that be the cause? i saw other tutorials and they didn't use the capacitor. Thanks!!

Gabo Aranguren It could be the cause, the capacitor acts as a small amp and filter.. is your master system the same region as your TV?
