Listen to what he i saying. I did not read the "fine print", the picture shows a "drill". A mortar mixer har normally 300-800 rpm max, a drill has 1800-2500 rpm max. Is the picture a mortar mixer or a drill? And yes, in all European languages (English and Spanish included) the data sheet warns about high speed mixing, At least on the product with the same name sold in Europe. In my previous job (repairing stuff) 95% of all failures was caused by people assuming how to use the product insted of using the product as described/intended by the producer. So my tolerance for this kind "excuses " are maybe a bit lower than the normal person. But I do feel for the guy in the video, Tiling/grouting is the DYI I hate the most because in my opinion it is a one shot job. If something goes wrong, all your work have been for nothing. And that is why you have to be 100% sure you know what you are doing before you start. PS) Mapei is an 80 year + old Italian based international company with 3+ billion dollar revenue, so for a spesialist building product producer I think they know what they are doing.

@@zippythechicken The Mapei premix grout was launched in 2015, according to Mapei because some professional users wanted a "timesaver". Instructions of the product he used state "Mix thoroughly with a low-speed mixer (at about 350 rpm) for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until obtaining a smooth, creamy, homogenous paste consistency and a uniform shading of the colored grout." It was "hidden" in the Us version of the instructions. I DO feel sorry for the guy, and I have had my troubles with tiling/grouting as a DIY'er myself. But the warnings and instructions are there, you just have to read them. He made a guess, and guessed wrong on how to use the product. We have all done it. But it's a bit "communist" to claim that its the producers fault to not have every user read the manuals before using the product. I have al respect for DIYfferent, and as far as I see it he does not blame the producer. But some commenters claim that the instructions are lacking, and the internet shows that this is not factual.

My hubby and his first wife designed and had it built. As soon as I moved in I got to work researching what I could do to camouflaged all the cracks or fix them. The only cracks I couldn’t fix were in our kitchen brick floor. My hubby would come home from work and say, how can you love this house with all these cracks everywhere? I told him, the only reason I get to live in this beautiful home is because of those cracks! Hubby’s first wife left him when the trouble with the house started. Then 2 years later, hubby met me. Only you will see the imperfections. It looks good from a distance and the tile is beautiful. Good thing to share with your viewers. If it were me I would try a dremel sanding drum to smooth out the bumps. It would be tedious, but when might be worth trying in an inconspicuous area.

Thanks for the update. The tiles and the grout color look nice. Interesting though that hand mixing or low speed wasn’t clear on the instructions. We have used the old school grout mix many times for our projects then several more paid tile projects for refurbs. We would have picked up the quick set mix and mixed the same way. The house is looking great!

Glad to hear you're recovering emotionally from what feels like a disaster. Hugs💓 I do like one of the suggestions below regarding applying a skim layer of grout. Sounds like it did the trick for the gentleman below. Just something to consider. Hugs again! You guys work so hard! Love and prayers💗🙏

None of us are perfect Doug! My husband and I love to watch you, Ashley, Belle and Maverick to see how you are progressing with your complete remodel of this house and property! You all work very hard and no one can say you’re quitters! The work you are doing is labor intensive, but my husband wanted to remind you to not leave the roof too long before epithet the metal on it. Please all of you be careful and God Bless You!🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻

I'm so glad you kept that beautiful tile. I'm sorry about the fast set up but you're right no one will be laying on that floor looking at it. Thank you for sharing this information with us; I'm sure it will save someone someday!

Thanks. I would never have guessed that was the cause! Jeeeez. Well done for scrubbing that floor so well! Would it be feasible to rub a skim coat of that grout over the rough and bubbled parts?
@diyfferent2 жыл бұрын
We could try that.

Still looks amazing to me. I'm glad it isn't so bad you have to tear it out and start again. If that happened to me I'd me so mad. Especially as you said, the instructions show a freaking drill mixer! Really glad it worked out OK for you.

I’m happy that you’re feeling better about it. I love that Ashley worked to clean the tile to the point where you could come back to it. Great teamwork, you guys. And thanks for sharing what you’ve learned - I’ve taken it as a learning lesson too.

would you consider a 2nd layer of grout to fill in the missing spots, or is this a ridiculous suggestion?

I hope by you reaching out to the manufacturer that they change the instructions on the packaging! All the Imperfections along the way weren't disasters and adds character to the house. It's a way to remember the renovation and share stories in years to come. I am glad you shared what happened. Looking forward to the next step!

Nice that the manufacturers got back in-touch! But they shouldn't put a picture of a electric drill in the picture definitely gives you the impression you can use one and No mention of mixing it at a slow speed or by hand! Glad you got it sorted and thank you for posting this info! Love your videos!

Wow what a great video. You are extremely open, transparent, and helpful. The kind of guy that is a true friend to others. At first I was a bit weirded out by the facial hair but it's okay now. You're a real cool guy. And thank God for Ashley! There are many women out there who would never let you live it down and maybe even make you tear it out and do it over again. God bless you and her and I hope your future renovation endeavors come out satisfying and enjoyable.

I’m glad you found the reason for the fast setting. The floor looks great and as you said no one is going to be on their knees looking at the grout
