my Spanish comprehension is very high (I don't say it to flatter myself but bc my bf is Argentinian and that makes easier for me) and I think my writing skills is pretty much intermediate and I make ton of mistakes. Cuando se trata de hablar, puedo transmitir lo que pienso pero, cuando me doy cuenta de los errores, me causan rabia. Mis mayores enemigos en Español, son los artículos, estrés de un par de palabras y los géneros. Me veo diciendo " La síndrome, El costumbres" cuando quiero hablar más rápido, eso son errores tremendos de un aprendiz, pero bueno, a la larga sé que llevare a cabo hablar cerca de un Hispanohablante aun que lo sé que lleva tiempo para lograrlo.

I finally managed to take my English to the next level after I stopped translating anything into my native language.(thank you, Ethan, this is your best advice). When I come across a new word or an expression I always look its defenition up in a dictionary and never translate it. This way can help you understand how the language actually works.

You have been describing me throughout the video! The more I try to learn the ropes around Spanish the less I know it. it definitely freaks me out, really! Maybe you can't agree with me but I think that we get a high level of frustration of a language when you achieve a certain level like upper intermediate or over. You know enough but you can't express yourself as you'd like to. Once in a while, you keep making the same and silly mistakes that you are aware about the correct. Overtime you think you rid of them but they are always there..
@RealLifeEnglish13 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I feel you! Did you try any of the tips we shared?
@CanalSDR3 жыл бұрын
@@RealLifeEnglish1 I will try to keep them in mind to give my best to put them practice. Even if I am aware we cannot translate or we should minimize the unawareness translations but it turns out that in the everyday conversation, they're almost inevitable. The verb quedar is my worst enemy because it can mean: to stay, remain, left, to meet up, to turn into and the list goes on and on.. I decided to apply for a company that Spanish is needed. Me quedé hablando con la entrevistadora por un largo rato and when the job interview was about to finish. She gave me an feedback regarding my Spanish and she said it needs some repairs but my mistakes dont prevent me to work there because I will learn more when I face different dialects of Spanish.

Ethan says "the thunder down under" to Ollie because it's a name of an Australian magazine where there are some Australians with few clothes. And he also says lovely Andrea because "lovely" is the typical British word. In the US: Have a good day. In the UK: Have a lovely day.

I said “ daily expressions “ for a long time, no one told me this is wrong until the British linguistic professor joined our online meetup yesterday and corrected me that we don’t say “ daily expressions, “ we say “ everyday expressions “ then another American members said “daily expressions “ sounds weird to me, you can just say “expressions “ OMG no one corrected me that before 🤦🏻♀️ Anyway, thanks for the useful lesson though! My key takeaway from this lesson is that we have to make an all-out effort to focus on connection not perfection. Don't kick yourself! Don't beat yourself up! Fossilization is a bad habit. This will deteriorate your confidence.

4 steps to overcome your mistakes 1. Recognize - be aware the mistake. 2. Reflect- why is hard for you? 3- Unlearn- forget the words you are not using correctly. 4- Re-learn- learn the correct word.

We should look for a mentor because this will be pivotal. However, if you can't afford one, you have to be resourceful. This means listen to podcasts or watch TV with a keen ear. This practice will put you on the right track to live your English. Watch TV-read-converse. Never give up.

Ethan, I wanted to ask you something. Do you have like a course as ‘Fluency with Friends’, but not learning English, and Spanish? I’m really into learning English by watching Friends instead of looking through and reading boring grammar. I was sure keen on how Spanish sounds, such a stunning language and I was craving to learn it and possibly visit Latin America in the future. Thanks in advance. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Ok now i really want to hear you speaking other languages and know how and why did you learn them. I often make a mistake when i'm using the past, i forget that once i said "i didn't", the verb stays in present. The right way i know is "i didn't go", but sometimes i say "i didn't went". Agh it makes me so mad

Hi Ethan. I am spanish and my great mistake is I always try to use "voy a hacer algo" and when I want to say it in english then I use "am going to" and I think I use it incorrectly. How can I leave this habit? Thanks for all. Great channel. The besy english learn channel I would say ;)

When I came across the word "pathetic" for the first time, I thought it meant "passive, dormant" because of that meaning of the greek word "pathitikos". The same happened as for the linguistic term "semantics"; I thought it meant "important".
