Fabulosa vid as always. I'm not a pinner, as I'm a glue baster. I like to pivot a pin perpendicular to both points on my pinnable ironing surface. Once glued/set, it does not shift (but do clip because I'm clumsey and roll my chair over some piece of dragging quilt piece). Now, for pesky internal points (kaleido, LeMoyne) that you have to align when there is a confluence of stuff....using jeans thread (and appropriately sized needle) allows for a thread pivot (v. pin) that you can hold and guide through your machine. (Not saying it is any better than your method or pivoting pin method...just a method). Importantly, if you want to not lose your points, don't have scant 1/4" seams on points. A test block will always confirm your choices (yay or nay) so that your block finishes the right size with the right points. Keep your vids coming....

Great idea Mary. I have heard to sew through the actual point but I often have to unpack and try to get just below. I am going to try this.
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
I found when you sew through the tip, then you still have a bit of a flat end. With this, you allow for the fold over and still have a perfect point Thanks for watching!

Perfect! This is just what I need right now! Coincidentally, I’m about to begin an Ohio Star quilt for my Ohio State fan. I do find I like to press most seams open, just depends on the block and how it joins to the next.

@meacadwellАй бұрын
I see your way of doing this and it seems easier. I've been doing it a smidge differently. I poke the pins through the points so the pin heads are underneath the block. Lay the sashing on top and poke the pins straight up through the sashing. I use those marking pins to keep the sashing in place - where the pin comes out is the "mark" and I sew just to the outside of the "mark" from the sashing side. I'll have to give your version a try. Thank you

Good tip, Mary! Any tips when you have two tips being sewn together so you don’t cut off the one underneath?
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
Mark your point on both sides instead of just one side. Then, pin together through the marked dots on both sides. That way you know they're both lined up accurately and when you sew just below the marked dot on the top side, it will be in the right spot on the underside as well. Hope that helps.

Thanks! This looks terrific. Where I have the very most trouble is joining those stars block to block without sashing - point to point. Do you have a method for that? Thanks again!
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
Make sure you mark both points with a pencil dot as I show in the video, on each side. Then put a pin perpendicular through the center of both marked dots and cross pin. Remove the perpendicular pin and sew through the dot. I have a video in my free workshop on cross or diagonal pinning if you're not familiar with it - www.joyfulandmerryquilting.com - click on Watch Free Workshop. Good Luck!

Thank you so much! I love this tip. Should I make my sashings wider and then cut them down as I don't think it will necessarily be perfectly square if I don't so the same amount to get though both of those lines or is that not an issue? Thanks.
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
I love to "cut big and cut back" wherever I can. I think that's a great idea!
