A lot of coaches/swimmers talk about the down-hill sensation, but would say that is just a feeling, not really diving down. The reality is: you do dive when you feel the "down-hill". That often happens after you breathe. When you breathe and recover your arm, half of your face, and one shoulder, and one arm are above water. If you also keep you hip high, then your weight point must be higher than usual. Then soon your weight point must be going to sink deeper than usual too. Although you imagine you are always parallel to the water surface, you are actually undulating up and down.

'swimming downhill' is something I struggle to get my head around. I have subscribed to your vimeo series but still cannot get it clear in my head. I don't have any difficulty keeping my hips and feet high so I wonder if that indicates my posture is good. Envisaging my body on its side with one high shoulder and the other shoulder low combined with my low arm angled down at 40-45 degrees, it seems to me that any forward motion through the water will make the submerged arm act like a submarine bow plane and cause a see-saw action that forces the head and chest to tend to sink down and the hips and feet to tend to rise to the surface. It also occurs to me that trying to 'force the chest down - over a wall' only applies during the fraction of the stroke when you are flat, i.e. when both shoulders are level and the chest is facing downwards. At the other aspect when one shoulder is high out of the water, your chest is facing the side of the pool so at that point, you can't press the chest downwards. Incidentally since adopting the ocean walker technique, it amuses me to watch other swimmers using a pool buoy between their knees to keep their feet high whilst they do an arm drill. I have no difficulty keeping my feet still (no kicking) without them sinking at all and no need of any of the fashionable pool toys. 😀

Great video and I appreciate the tips. While watching the video I am trying to figure the number of kicks you are doing and can't see clearly. How many kicks are you doing per stroke cycle, is it a 2-beat kick or a 4-beat kick?
@adamwalker323 жыл бұрын
2 beat my friend.

In the video you point out to keep your head down. At certain intervals an open water swimmer had to navigate. What would you suggest how to do navigation while swimming ‘down hill? Thank you.

great video ! I always experience hamstring cramps when I wear wetsuit, what do you think is the problem?
@adamwalker323 жыл бұрын
Could be the buoyancy pulling your legs up. Less buoyancy wetsuit could help

Greatbvids sir...When you say hands lower...does that mean after entry, your hand reaches forward and a little further below the surface of the water?
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
Yes like diving it points lower under the surface

It would be interesting seeing you from underwater to understand better what you mean from swimming downhill. Also I wonder what's the pace you move your legs with :)

The right leg kicks once when the right arms pulls and the left leg kicks once when the left arm pulls. He made video about this. Hope that helps :).

Disculpa tu estilo e viendo pero detienes el brazo izquierdo al meterlo al agua, te sugiero lo revises y lo muevas un poco más rápido y con más velocidad en los dos brazos
