Dear if A1=5, B1=A, you avoid A1+B1 by using "sum" function, how can i avoid if i want the result A1-B1?

Excel does not have a SUBTRACT function and therefore you have to invert the sign on B1. But B1 can be text in which case inverting the sign would give an error. So you use IFERROR to change the sign on B1. If the content of B1 is a number then the sign gets flipped and if B1 has text in it then the IFERROR gives a zero. So then you use the SUM function. =SUM(A1,IFERROR(-1*B1,0))

what is the fix on a formula like this? which works great when there's a value to populate the cell, but when a value can't be found, its results in the "#VALUE!" error ..... here the formula =(MID($A2,FIND(H$1,$A2)+LEN(H$1)+14,(FIND("""",$A2,FIND(H$1,$A2)+LEN(H$1)+14+1))-(FIND(H$1,$A2)+LEN(H$1)+14)))

If there is no answer for Find(H$1,$A2) for example it would give a #value error. Try using iferror to handle such situations

Hi, I've tried to change format to number/ currency. anything other than general or text. but no luck. It's weird because if its a number with decimal places - if I remove decimal places sometimes it converts automatically to a number... so weird... :( please if you can look and. maybe help. I see its happening in 'numbers' as well as excel. so weird...

Hi: (1) You cannot have the underscore in the formula like you have shown =(710.340_710.546)/100 I think you meant to type a minus sign (2) Whenever you have a number like xEy (in your case 6E-05) it means 6 times 10 raised to the power of -6. That is NOT an error.
